Hey - does anyone know if the gas flaps (a.k.a. fuel tank door) on the early Federal Elises were made from magnesium? I was looking at mine yesterday, contemplating if I should by a new one because it looks corroded, and then I noticed it looked a little yellow, like older magnesium. Aluminum typically goes from a shinny bright silver to a light dull gray with time. But not mag. The new Elises have definitely an aluminum flap as they are bright silver with round tool marks from being machined. Anyone know anything?

yup, and the different machining for the fuel doors was present on the 05's as well. I've seen 05's, early and later run, with different machinging patterns.

Any product containing ammonia will yellow aluminum.
