With the deep blue waters of Lake Tahoe and the snow capped peaks of the Sierras as the backdrop the 2004 WCLM will focus on the introduction of the Lotus Elise, a car that the automotive press has said to be "the world's best sports car." Sam Mitani of "Road & Track" says, "… the new Elise is arguably the most exciting sports car in the world to drive. It's a must-have for any enthusiast…"

Says GGLC President Pete Richen, "The GGLC is excited to be able to host the 2004 West Coast Lotus Meet, in what will be a very exciting year for Lotus with the launch of the Elise. I can't imagine a Lotus enthusiast missing this event to celebrate."

"Our 2004 WCLM Committee has already planned a very full three and a half days that include a WCLM Lotus Track Day, a WCLM Autocross, a Lake Tahoe Tour, a Casual Concours, BBQs, Awards Brunch and even a sunset dinner and dance cruise on Lake Tahoe!"

So, get your 2004 calendars or pull out your PDAs and mark down that from May 20th to 23rd that you're going to be in Lake Tahoe! There'll be lots of details on the 2004 WCLM in the coming weeks so watch this space.

Cool! I hope I have my Elise by then!

Has anyone driven the Reno-Fernley Raceway before (it's the one being used for the track event)? it's an odd looking track...though I love s-curves, so it could be a blast (though those s-curves are not that tight)...

It is sort of odd. The GG website states that the track will have expanded by the date of the meet to 2.0 miles long from 1.3.

Registration now open.

Anyone here sure if they will have their Elise by then? I am not. :)

If I was, I would go. Sounds like a blast.
Randy,

If I had my car by then, I would go too. Dont hold your breath!
I'm working with LCU with the goal of getting cars there for ride & drives. Concept is simple - the WCLM is a Lotus event that will feature the Elise (and that means if you don't have your car yet you can come and get a real chance to see, feel & drive in one of the most gorgeous places on Earth). The WCLM is open to any Lotus Enthusiast (don't have to have/bring a Lotus).

As for the Reno-Fernley Raceway. It's a new track and I've been told by the owner that they are adding at least another mile by the time we get there - longer straight and a very tight section. I'll try to post a new track map shortly on the WCLM website.

My thoughts exactly as I saw this thread. It was later in the year I think I would have signed up :(
Understand that the cars will be just hitting the showrooms and it's likely that only the first allocation will be in the hands of new owners.

We'd still like to encourage any/all Lotus enthusiasts to join in the fun (you don't have to have a Lotus). If you're still waiting for your car we are going to have a few available for ride & drives. I can't think of a better more scenic place to get your first demo drive than in the Lake Tahoe area!

Of course we'll do something in 2005 too...

Kiyoshi
Kiyoshi,

Can you handle a last minute sign up? For example, if my car arrives a week before the event, I will attend. But I don't know for sure.

I agree with you that this would be an awesome way to break in the new car (so to speak). And I can see the reason for going even if I did not have a car, but I doubt I would make the trip without my own car.

Randy,

We'd find some way to accomodate the EliseTalk moderator and any EliseTalk member!!!

We'll all know a lot more as "the time" draws closer!

Not likely I'll have the Elise then. But being in the Bay Area it might be wroth a drive- if there are Elise's there.;)
If everything stays on schedule we'll have demos there! (otherwise I'll be the guy on the side of Hwy 50 with his thumb out!!!)

Kiyoshi:

You guys on the left coast should come to the southeast (YEEHA) with Gordonie for LOG 24 in Birmingham, AL. September 10-13th. Great way to break in the Elise.

Lots of happenings at LOG 24 including Arnie and The Boys from Lotus Cars USA bringing several Elise (for sure), the annual LOG autocross, several guest speakers (it's a secret, but it's BIG and I'd be shot if I told anyone), and a phenomenal track day at the new Barber Motorsports Park (with the concourse at the Barber museum).

All are invited and welcome.

I've mentioned to Chris S that I'd try to make LOG this year (I've been absent for the past 2 or 3. :-(

No reason we can't do BOTH!

Kiyoshi
Kiyoshi:

We haven't had the pleasure of meeting, but if you make LOG 24 this year, the first round is on me.

And... if you make to the WCLM I'd be pleased to do the same!!! :)

See you there....

I'm signed up and will be at the WCLM Tahoe in May with my Sunspeed S1 Honda-engined Elise. There will be at least two of these cars at the event.

I hope the autocross allows time for extra fun-runs for the Elises, I helped "modern wedgie" get addicted to the Elise at an autocross a while ago :)

My main hope is to get some new stickier tires before the event, my P-Zeros weren't that great to start with and have done lots of miles and burn-ups now. (2nd set on the rear already...)

Its tricky to get the S1 sized Yoko's into the US.

p.s. I'm also trying to get the prototype T-Zero Li-Ion battery powered car to come along to the WCLM... I drove it back to back with my Elise and its insanely fast. 3.6s 0-60 with no gear changes!

Correction:
I was already addicted to the elise...however you provided me the incentive to actually buy one. That is one incredibly fun car. Oh, and sorry for wasting some of your tire life :)

I'm still undecided about going to this one. My work schedule is pretty hectic in May, but I love Lake Tahoe almost as much as hanging out with fellow Lotus-heads.

I'll definetly be up in Monterey in August for the Concorso Italiano...with newly restored FIAT (if she makes the drive up from SD :D)
