Here's a video from the Car & Driver Challenge in about 2006:
This Lotus is about 6:50 on the bottom timer.
We've never had it on a dyno, but it's supposed to be about 320 HP.

Funny, this stock internal K-swapped Elise is making nearly the same power as the fully built BOE Elise.
I wish there were more Eliges for sale with K-swaps. I'm anxiously awaiting for a white Exige with a Kswap to show up.

Does this Elise have the AC fitted?

I’ve also been hoping a K swapped Exige would show up on the market. This is a straight forward and cost effective swap. I would add charge cooling for efficiency. Is the gearbox modified with a LSD? With a little effort this could put down 400hp at the wheels and be a reliable daily driver.

The car in the video has a supercharger with the Jackson Racing logo on top. The car for sale has a different unit. Also, the car for sale is described as having a K24 swap, but the video says two liter Honda. Seems like things have changed for the car since '06.

A K24 swap is not cheap or cost effective there are a dozen examples probably on the forum and they all cost 20 grand in the end

Sure, if you pay someone else to do it for you...anything is expensive. Compared to other swaps, Honda gives the best bang for your buck.

It does add up, I think I was up to around 20K in my calculations, but that was for a turbo K20, and the money swung about 5-6K one way or the other depending on if i went with a built engine/trans. You could prob swap the k20 for less than 10k, but it'd be a near stock junkyard motor swap, and that's likely not worth it for a little over 200whp.

But I have about 14K in reciepts for everything related to my basic Rev400 setup without a built block or trans or HEX front mount... so figure built trans and engine would push this option well over 20K. For that money I'd rather have the Honda motor.

In fact my plan initially was to sell off all of the Rev400 equipment to partially fund a Turbo K20, but I think I'm just going to save up for an Ariel Atom instead.

Curious - thoughts on whether this swapped set-up (if done right) with modified everything (steer rack, suspension etc) is going to generally be (considered) more or less reliable than a comparable Rev400 set-up? If things break on this would shops be able to figure out how to fix it? This is a pretty interesting car.

Short Answer - Yes they'd be able to figure out how to fix it. In a lot of cases it would be easier for a speed shop to diagnose an issue with a Honda powered car than a modified 2ZZ car.

Long answer, what's going to break? Anything chassis suspension body related is the same Lotus specific repair process regardless of engine
Drivetrain is the same components as a Acura RSX or TSX again very common parts and lots of knowledge.
Swap parts - solid steel mounts don't usually break.. they typically work or dont, or maybe need some adjustment. The adjustment process is where things can technically get a bit hard to research, but there are plenty of other people in the world swapping K motors into everything and can help. ALso any good speed shop could also help here.
Essentially the knowledge with regards to Honda motors, tuning, electronics, hydraulics (all the smaller things people don't think of) is 1000X the available knowledge of tuning 2ZZs and that knowledge and ability is all concentrated within BOE.

So while the Rev400 kit is well engineered, if you have a problem with your Rev kit, there's essentially no one else on the planet you can go to for help other than one shop.

It can be done cheaper if you're resourceful. I did a Kswap using all brand new parts (except the engine) for $16k.


Either way, this Wirewheel Elise seems enticing. If it retained the AC, I'd be even more attractive.

Looks like this car is missing the under engine panel and the fabric on the door cards is loose. Minor issues if the car checks out mechanically. Definitely can't reproduce it for the price.

Anyone know what has been modified with the rear suspension or subframe? To my knowledge the Elige cars accept the Honda swap without requiring any suspension or frame mods.

Definitely no need to modify the rear subframe or suspension.

I have a white Exige that I swapped an MPx90 supercharged K24 into. It's beastly. I've also fitted BOE's A2W front HEX with a chargecooler integrated into the manifold. Neat, but expensive. This Elise, if well sorted, is worth a lot more than what they're asking. Sure, you could get all the hard parts for cheaper but the time to integrate it all is not insignificant.

Not sure I'd ever sell mine. If I did, I'd be asking close to $50,000 which would be a No Go for most people, anyway.

Thanks Butters, I’ve seen yours on the forum. I didn’t think there was any need to modify the rear, so I’m curious what’s been done to this one and why.
