I have a 2006 elise with 20,000 miles. When i have the car in gear, with the gas pedal released or only slightly depressed (whenever cruising) mainly in second or third there is a rattling coming form the passenger-side - somewhere in the lower right footwell general area.

The rattling does not occur when I am in neutral.

It only occurs at 2000-4500 rpm really (perhaps any higher and the exhaust drowns it out).

My initial guesses - oil cooler? Something loose in the wheel well that only shakes when in-gear?

Anyone has a similar problem? Would a video w/ sound help?

THANKS A MILLION!

Justin

When I picked my Elise from the shop the other day I had a rattle coming from the rear. I thought it was the new cat they put on. It was a reflector on my Euro rear panel. My point is that it can be the simplest little thing on these cars.

Sounds to me like a loose screw or possibly one of the plastic pieces that separate the storage bin area.

Start tapping things to see if you can replicate the sound, or go out driving and replicate the conditions, then listen very carefully to see where its coming from.
