Here's a wacky thought...

Maybe you should post the picture so we can see what you're talking about...
the 2006 elise will look just like the 2005
It's kind of weird - in the latest Road and Track (oct. 04) they have a short blurb on the "2006 Elise Mk. 3" with the same picture of the yellow Elise/VX220 lookalike as has been already posted in another thread.

Quote:

"In late 2005, an all-new version of the Lotus Elise, one that meets U.S. crash standards, will make its debut. The significantly wider car will be built on an all-new modular chassis, and will continue with the 190-bhp Toyota engine."

My guess is that, if this is true, the "MK3" Elise would debut in Europe first, then find its way to the U.S. a year later (2007 model year.) Plus, given Lotus' timeframes, it may debut in late 2005, but no one will be able to buy one until model year 2007.

Bigger and heavier with the exact same engine? Good! That way I won't feel tempted to buy it.

Looks suspicously like a vauxhall vx220
UGLY!!
This is the same pic that AutoExpress put on the cover of their mag in the 300 BHP Lotus thread, BTW.

I agree with a post from another thread that what you see here is a computer rendered pic of what actually is a early prototype of the recently applied for copyright PROTON sports car BASED on the Elise structure, and not actually a Lotus branded product.

Note:

1) The wheels are the same.

2) The front air intake is the same except the picture submitted by Lotus Engineering for Copyright has vertical supports.

3) The added intakes on top of the rear fenders on the color pic are obviously CG

4) The rear wing is also a CG add on

BTW, the head lights on the "spy shot" look like they were grafted from a Miata and the fog/driving lights are not correctly rendered for perspective. The rear wing increases in depth behind the seats.
I've said it once, I'll say it again.

THANK GOD I purchased a 2005!
Interesting...there may already be enough deposits in to bleed into the "2006" model year?

Even though (we've learned our lesson, right?) "late 2005" in Lotus-years means "mid-2006" in Earth-orbit-around-the-sun years, it will be interesting to see how many "2005" Elise's get built before the new model is introduced. Could end up being a "2007" model year when all said and done?

I'm hoping the "2006" comes ASAP...makes the 2005 all the more special/valuable!

Now that looks BIIG.
It looks more exotic.... Too exotic looking for me as it looks more lamborarri... maybe because it gives the impression of *mass* in the pic.
Don't want the weight.
doubt it will have toyota. It'll be a VX220t in drag.

Ok if this car will be built the Lotus Company will R.I.P.
I've never seen a sport car so ugly!
On that grey model.

The front end, to me, looks like an RX8. The back end/vent looks like newer ford mustang.
