1972 Opel GT. Blue.

This car was given to our family many years ago. The owner died and his mother passed the car on to us. The car has been in storage for at least 20 years. This is a real barn find. The car will need to be restored or used for parts. There is rust and we do not know the current condition of the engine or trans. When the last owner took ill the car was parked and has not been driven since. The car is located in Fawn Grove, PA.

These are neat little cars, have you googled around for an Opel GT owner's forum / classifieds ?
My parents had one of these when I was a kid. Cool car!
Rust photos please!
The car is located over an hour from my house on the family farm. It was recently pulled out from the second level of the barn due to the floor was getting bad and we didn't want the cars to fall through. As I mentioned there is rust. The floor pans would have to be fixed as well as some of the fender area that can be seen in the photo. More photos maybe a problem at this time. The car is titled in my father's name and he can meet anyone who is interested in the car at the farm. I will put those interested in contact with my father. He is 83 and he refuses to use a computer. He has been restoring cars and airplanes most of his life and can tell you more about the car. The price reflects his wish to pass on this car to someone who will make good use of it.
I think I'll take it. It would make a great lemons car, maybe...

I've get relatives in PA that may be able to pick it up. Let me call them and see if they could grab it for me.

Oh no!! :panic: Please don't send this Opel to a Lemons race! It deserves to be saved. There are so few of these left that haven't turned into complete rust buckets.
If you want to destroy the car my father may not sell it to you. There is a strong feeling towards this car being fixed or its parts going to fixing another car. My father has been restoring cars for over 50 years. If you are not interested in saving this car or one like, do not inquire.
Heh. That's the maybe... if it is really rusted out now then it could be a LeMons car. If not... maybe it could be something cool.

+1 - I agree - Save the Opel. I so rarely see a GT or even the old Manta any more.
I have a set of gauges (at least I think I do) oil, gas, clock for an Opel GT....if anyone from LT buys this car I'll send them to you for free if you pay shipping.
Well, I discussed this with my uncle who lives in PA and I think I'm going to pass. Plus I'd probably want to turn it into a LeMons car and I wouldn't want to hide that from the previous owner.

Good luck with the sale!
Place a free add on opelgt.com forum. The Opel GT is a hot item there, and this one appears to have a really good body on it. I personally have 4 Opel Gt's I am restoring. Too bad this one is on the East Coast or I would buy it:shrug: $500 is a very reasonable price for that car BTW
Please please don't destroy this Opel GT. There are so many folks trying to restore them. They actually have a very interesting history, and they also had the same designer as Corvette, and he designed the Opel GT first. This car has become very rare in the USA, and there are more on the East Coast, than anywhere in the USA.

 to put this in the Lemons would be like rescuing a kitten and feeding it to a python.

On the positive side, fixing it is like .. well...

I loved those cars as a child.

I recently did an Ebay search and found a lot of heavily modified examples.

Hope someone can restore it.
can you fit an LS-7 engine in it?
Don't know about engine swaps. The car is basically stock. I too have seen many modified Opels. It is hard to finds a car of age that did not have something switched on it.
The original owner parked the car over 25 years ago at his mother's house. He later died of phenomena at a young age. His mother kept the car for many years just as her son had left it. As close friends of the family and car enthusiasts, the car was entrusted to us. We kept the car in storage out of respect for the mother's feelings. No work has ever been done to the car while we had it. Due to the condition of the storage building the car has been removed and it was agreed to find it a good home.
Any pictures of the interior and under the hood would be apreciated to see their condition. Also doed it look like any animals have been living in it tearing it up?
