Saw Eldon's car run at Putnam Park this past weekend. Was fast LOL. Found out his trans was the one that use to be in my SSM car. Small world

Got the impression the new gears are fantastic

Yes, mostly. I should have the first 1-4 set under construction later this week, following another 1-4 set. The Ring and Pinion is behind schedule, probably by about 6 weeks. I will try to take a few build up Trans-Porn(oh wow that doesn't sound good!) pics for everyone in a few days!

Cheers,

fred

So the ring and pinion ETA is... early October? I have an appointment to take my car into the shop tomorrow. I've been waiting for these parts to become available...

I also need to figure out what the delta is between order placed and receiving product once the item is in production.

Well he got the gears in on wednesday and my transmission is in the mail back to me yesterday, so it's pretty short! Hopefully all goes well with shipping and it will be in my car for next weekends track day at COTA

LionZhu,

First shipment was 5 sets, of which 4 are spoken for. The ring gears are probably early October at this point. Turn around depends on what is going on in the shop and what you want done with your stuff. If you want it all shot-peeded and REMed it will take a couple weeks. If you work with me on the schedule as Kfennell did, I can work it to turn around ASAFP.

I am looking forward to kfennel and my secret beta tester's reaction to COTA this weekend. That track is hella fun and I think the gearset is really gonna shine!

Just signed up for the CotA weekend. Hope to see you guys there! Looking at the previous posts, I think I know who the "secret beta tester" might be and look forward to meeting more Lotus track junkies. Although my car has stock transmission, maybe we can do some comparison as it looks like we are in the same group together. I have a Porsche friend going also and will be in garage #15 if you want to look me up.

I'm interested in getting the new and improved transmission and am looking into sending my last transmission that 3rd gear crapped out to fzust to work his magic on.

See you there! I will be in one of the garages with the mexican porsche crew (my neighbour and his friends). I have the black 07 Exige with canards and 2011+ wing.

Being the Beta Tester, we are about 5 hours out right now. I will have the large motorhome with the stacker trailer. I don't need a garage since I bring mine with me. :smile2:

Kevin, by the way, this is not a racing event and Mark Hicks will remind you that at the driver's meeting. :wink2:

See you there,

OK, motorhome and stacker is BALLER! I think kfennel lives right near the track though. Anyway, you guys enjoy that badass track but keep the paint shiny and the rubber side down.

OK, we made it to the track and hopefully ready to go. I have new CF seats and belts to get all comfy with. Received a track prep from a local expert so we will see.

Definitely a positive on rubber side down!

By the way, the offer still stands....

Took the new 1-4 gearset out to COTA this weekend. The gears were great, the Quaife LSD was great, my ability to setup LETSLA is less great.

After using the new gears for a few hundred road miles and 270 track miles this weekend I Have the following feedback.

Gear ratios are great, on COTA you are out of the power band for like .0001 seconds all track, way more power in the critical slow corner exits, and being in the power band all the way down the long straight is great.
I never missed a gear all weekend (apart from the bad session below) while shifting from 5-2 for corner 12. This gave me a ton more confidence to brake later.
Nothing broke!
It's not the gears, but man is that Quaife LSD better then the lotus LSD which is much better then no LSD!
I took 2 seconds off my old PB there
It is possible I was the fastest car out there with a licence plate on it!?

I did lose half of a session where I became unable to select any gears on the top half of the shifter. I resolved this by removing then reinstalling the LETSLA assembly on the transmission, not sure what that is about. I guess the clearance's in this gear set must be a little tighter then the stock since I never had this problem before, my cables are old though and some issues are surely expected since I installed the transmission on Thursday and went to the track Saturday!
The gears are also mildly louder then stock, I am not sure anyone who cares would be making this upgrade, but it is a thing to consider.

Overall I would definitely do it again, it is an equal increase in Drivability as when I installed the Torque 300 tune, so if you have done that you have a point of reference. As Eldon said before these make for a great compromise of a close ratio gearbox that is still very street able and I am happy to have it, incidentally like Eldon I also blew out my axle seal partially on the last session (he did on the dyno). Apparently I need to invest in axle seal stocks with the rate I go through them.

Kevin,

I did not blow out the seal, I had a problem with the snap ring keeping the axle in the diff. Once I replaced the snap ring, I have not had any problems.

It was nice meeting and look forward to seeing each other again.

Take care,
Eldon

@kfennell can you comment on how much louder it is than the stock box? Please add some color to that.

My stock box is not quiet as it is. Might be going out, and I'm wondering how I might address it while I've got the engine out already in the next few weeks.

It's enough louder that I noticed it when driving around the neighborhood, but above 40-50 MPH or at full throttle you can't hear it at all.

First gear is the only gear that I have noticed that is louder than stock. I spend so little time in first that I only notice it when downshifting to come to a stop. If you have any type of aftermarket exhaust, you will find the exhaust noise will dominate.

Are the ring gears still early October ETA?
