When you say half-shafts are you speaking of axles? They are FAR more robust than the transmission. I've broken a couple in 10 years on our XP car but that is from repeated drag launches on slicks at Pros. Axles are quite good.

Hi Fred,

I didn't notice this thread the first time. I'm very interested in knowing why you've decided to keep the stock synchros. My 2nd gear synchro is about to go, and it seems that the 2nd gear synchro is a pretty common failure point in these transmissions. Do you believe that the changes to gear spacing will put less stress on the synchro and keep it from failing?

How many miles have you put on your 2011?
...recently replaced my stock trans with MWR 3.9:1 transmission...

Quick update! Back on track with plans to build and install test box this weekend.
We're going to be doing the these gearboxes on a core-charge swap basis. This way you can keep your car on the road as long as possible, swap out the trans and send us the gearbox back as a core. Alternatively, you can keep the stocker if you like, just pay the core charge.

We should have pricing very soon!

Until then, how about a comparison of stock vs our ring gear?

As someone that has broken quite a few ring gears and axles I'd much rather have a strong gear box and use the axle as a circuit breaker. Those are fairly easy to replace and get you back in the race.

Tranny options

Now I have two options:grin2: I know what I'll be doing with my C64 when I pull it to put in the E153 I had built. BTW this E153 has a set of close ratio KAZ gears and the 3.9 FD which made it very close to the C64 in spacing and total range. Each of the first four gears is slightly taller and the 5th is just a bit short of 6th. I think it will be fine for road courses.

I want to run this transmission with the C65 4.312 final drive, the C60 0.725 6th gear and 245-40-17 tires.

This should yield @ 8500 rpm:

1st: 61 mph <- NICE
2nd: 84 mph
3rd: 112 mph
4th: 136 mph <- won't have to shift to 5th in the quarter mile
5th: 157 mph
6th: 200 mph (yeah right!)

Cartest reports the following (@ 410hp):

0-60: 2.45 seconds
0-100: 6.15 seconds
0-130: 9.66 seconds
0-150: 13.05 seconds
Quarter mile: 10.62 @ 135.92 mph

It's the golden ticket :)

I know I keep saying "soon" on the pricing. I have the test box nearly together. I keep getting screwed by snap rings. There are about 12 different snap rings with literally 12 different thicknessess. I should have them Tuesday and in the car soon thereafter. I need to get some idea of interest, which requires getting the pricing out there....

Which one is your final drive gear?

The lower one, right?
Why do you grind this with so much stock on flank and without any protuberance?
What about tip relief? chamfers ?

The lower one is ours. It was a regrind of the proto to fix it, hence the lack of chamfers. Production one will be chamfered.

Any update on these being available and pricing? Trans is out and need another one to put in. Right now E153 is really the only option until this is available

Me too! I just rebuilt mine to stock Toyota spec but plan on breaking it every chance I get....hopefully less than parts plus labor for a standard rebuild as it is not that hard of a diy job if your handy.

Trans is on the garage floor. Trying to decide between rebuild, MWR and if this would be an option.

I was in the same boat I went E-153 remember even though the gear box is stronger it's still the same size clutch. The E-153 has a bigger clutch that was my deciding factor well and this better C64 still not being available
