Glad I found this thread! My AC is having similar issues and I just checked all the fuses.

I can hear the compressor click on and the rpms change when I push the button, so I'm starting to think I must be low on refrigerant.

By the way, how long should the refrigerant last on our cars?

In theory, indefinitely, however due to age and wearing of components, leaks can develop.

There is only 12V at C4 when the compressor relay closes, which is controlled by the ECU. Try jumping the relay contact by bridging brown/white wire to the red at the AC control module to see if the compressor starts.
If it does, it could be the Trinary switch not signalling the ECU to start the compressor due to low refrigerant level or defective wiring or switch.
The fans are also controlled by the ECU and run at half speed if the compressor is running.

Hi

I bridged out the C4 fuse and I could hear the A/C compressor solenoid kick in.
Could this still mean that it is low on gas in the A/C?
I know the switch is ok but the back lights don't work on the heater control panel either. Could this all be linked to the control box under the front wing?

I've got another one. I live in Austin. So, this is an emergency! 100F+ all week.
Air comes out, but it's air temperature (hot!)

The compressor sounds like it comes on. (RPM change)
I checked all three fuses.
The blue AC light on the instrument panel comes on and stays on.
The recirculation light comes on
AC system pressure reads 100 on my meter. It reads this with and without the compressor/car on.
I can't even see the compressor to check the clutch is spinning. Can you see it if you take the tray off?

I did the speedometer reset just for fun. No change.

I haven't done so much as an oil change since the AC was working. So, I'm thinking bad compressor? I probably only use the AC 3-4 days a year even though I live in Texas. Just when the wife consents to ride in the Lotus. I hardly ever drive around with the top on. I just arrive looking like I just took a shower with my clothes on...

Is there anything else I can check to nail down this diagnosis?

I'm not looking forward to the cost of a new compressor. I'm pretty handy with a wrench if I have good instructions. Is there any chance of replacing it in-vitro? If there is, I might attempt it myself.

Symptoms sound very similar to my problem, which turned out to be an AC relay pack (apparently it's 4 relays all together.) Sorry the receipt from my mechanic doesn't list a part number but he said this is something he was able to purchase from a local Toyota dealer, so it's a Toyota part.

Now that I know that's under the passenger side wheel liner, I'm wondering if I've used my air conditioner since April? That's when I had the oil cooler line recall done. Maybe they didn't connect it again...

Time to pull the wheel off. It's only 98 and a clear blue sky... maybe morning would be better.

I visually checked all of the fuses and even tested for resistance on the relevant fuses.

I did not see any electrical parts except the fuse box under the right 'hood'. According to other threads that module is attached to the front right wheel cover. I remember seeing it when I replaced the steering arms.

Guys, it just happen that while driving halfway i hear a 'tak' sound coming from the dash and my aircon stop working all together. no light, no air, no compressor.
I found out that my C1 fuse had blown, replaced that and all is working again.

Just want to know since nobody mention C1.
What cause C1 to fused??

I found out that my C1 fuse had blown, replaced that and all is working again.

Just want to know since nobody mention C1.
What cause C1 to fused??
Could be the resistor pack corroding.

Uh yeah, there's your problem...

The repair shop that I shall not name here tried to cook me!

Hooked up the connector and presto, cold air!

I had a strange situation with this relay. My compressor stopped working. After checking fuses, I unplugged this relay and found it had been hot in the spot you can see in the picture. After cleaning it up and making sure the contact there would be good, I plugged it back in and the compressor cycles again. Weird. Hopefully, the issue does not return.

My A/C suddenly quit working. The fan worked, the little blue dash light lit when pushed, but the compressor didn't engage. Checked LotusTalk of course for guidance (thanks everyone) and checked the usual things. The solution was to add some 134A to the system. As the freon was added, the compressor kicked on and we're back in business. Just wanted to thank all who have contributed to this thread.

That means it leaked out somewhere. Time to start searching for a leak.

My A/C worked well for 4 summers. This summer it did not blow any cold air.

My dealer topped up the refrigerant and it worked for a while but I think I have a leak.

My dealer said that to solve the leak they would probably need to take off the rear clam.

In Toronto, I don't really need the A/C so I've decided to live without A/C.
