A guy that fell in love with lotus, but. . .

Hey guys I'm Dana and I am an artist. I am DEFINITELY looking forward to purchasing a lotus elise within the next half of year to a year. I only had a few concerns about it really.

First off, I love cars for the ride. . .and its radio. Nothing fancy, long as the radio shoots out noise that I like to hear, I'm satisfied with that. I haven't ever sat, or test drove an elise either, because I'm unfortunate to live in Louisiana.:(

Reading a great bit on this little devil, definitely has sparked my interests, but just I have just one question really, may be weird.

Does this thing have a cigarette lighter plug-in? If it does, then this thing is automatically beyond perfect for me. While I'm driving, I love to listen to my ipod. Music plus an amazing driving experience is the best thing ever to me.

Oh! Also one more thing! I know this is a fragile little vehicle, but is it safe to sit on this part here:

I know these are weird questions, but I love driving as much as I love art. Thinking I could park it somewhere, with the top off, and get cozy up there and get a couple of shots with my camera and enjoy the scenery you know?

But um, that's all I'm really concerned about, and looking forward to traveling way out of the way to purchase one, I can not wait!

Psssshhhh... You say your an artist??? I could easily have drawn that stick figure myself...

To answer your questions...

Yes on the cigarette lighter plug (only for use as a power source, but not for use with lighting cigarettes)

No I would not sit anywhere on this car or any car for that matter...
For your info Dragon, that stick figure took a lot of persistence and discipline to draw!

Ha, just messing there, but REALLY glad to know that there is cigarette lighter plug in it.

As far as the sitting, eh I'll live without it.

Much appreciated!

No problem... So now I have a question for you... :D

If your a pretty cool guy then why do you have a girls name??? :panic:

I kid, I kid... Welcome to the forum and hope you get your dream car soon...
Good question there, I can reassure you that my name there is universal for both genders.

At least I hope, haha.

Thanks for the warm welcoming!
Welcome!
Just to expand on what Dragon said, the "cigarette lighter" is located in the rear of the cabin in between the seats above the center console, that's why you don't see it in interior pictures of the dash. FYI- Also if you get the touring package the Alpine radio comes with an iPod connector. I know that there are at least a couple guys here from Louisiana, Fatbug57 being one of them. You might PM them and see if they would be willing to let you check out their cars.
Drakes, how well does the Alpine radio sound against the lotus' engine, at regular speeds such as 50mph, and interstate speeds of 70mph?
I dunno about sitting on the rollbar section.

I imagine it's semi-safe, but there's only two places meant to be sat on - the drivers seat and the passengers seat.
I have the normal stock exhaust and I've got no problems with it all, but I'm not an audiophile or anything.
Sweet deal! This really is shaping up to be the perfect car for me.

Trust me, if you're anything like most of us here, you're going to love it! I obsessed for about a year, slowly wearing my wife down, when she finally gave in, BAM, it was done.:D

I would not sit on the rollbar (even though it's supposed to protect you if you roll over)
You should sit a lightweight female there instead and take your pictures. And post them here ;)

I know there are lots of artists out there, but when I first read that in your post I'll admit i had the great fear of another one of these catastrophe's:

Seems like a perfect name for someone who's pretty, and cool.

If you really wanted to sit on the roll bar once in a while, I doubt it would hurt anything. Of course I don't know how much you weigh, or what route you'd take to get up there!
/Wiseass mode On.

It was the cigarette lighter that sold me on the car, too.

/Wiseass mode Off.

SweetDaddyD: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however the art market is in the checkbook.

PrettyCoolGuy: Welcome. Clearly you'll do fine with this crowd--coping with the name probably was an early lesson in standing up!

My two cents, now that you know there is a so-called cigarette lighter for easy access to power -- most frequently used by those of us in more northern climes as an easy way to hook up the battery tender!

Frankly not been an engineer of course, I think unless you are extremely heavy or careless, you can perch safely on the rollbar especially if you are only leaning rather than putting full body weight on it--on your own car when you get one and it sounds like you will!

As for the radio, the faster you go the less you will hear it. And once again, once you get your own car, you will see that there are plenty of things to do with it other than using it for a concert hall. At rest, when you are perched on the roll bar to take pictures, the music will sound fine.

I agree with the others' advice--get a chance to check one out. But even that's not necessary. I bought mine having never seen one and was delighted immediately.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the list of mods Luxige, I was considering doing a couple myself once I settle in and break it in.

As far as sitting on the rollbar

I'm fairly light, I'm in about 131 lbs, 5'7 really small person.

Would that cause any damage, or wear to it overtime?

SweetDaddyD: Haha, clever plan there my friend! And a fear for another "amazing" paint job as that. . .I'd never give it a job as exotic as that. :p
Not sure if this came though in the other replies, but the iPod adapter for the stock Alpine (tour package) does power the iPod, no need for the cigarette lighter.

Even with the stock exhaust, the quality of the music does just not come though.

A lotus is probably not the best car for cruising around listening to tunes.
Hmm, I guess the music against the engine thing is up to the driver's tolerance or expectations.

As far as music capabilities, I'm not expecting too too much from it, but as long as it's there!

I'm sold on this car alone from it's unreal handling, and amounts fun it can throw out.

The suspense builds . . .

Welcome, and if you're as light as your drawing would indicate, ocassionally sitting on the roll hoop will only damage the cover by scratching it-it's fairly thin material up there, but since the car is low to ground, most folks would see it.

I liked your drawing-excellent use of perspective! But if that's you, maybe you should be driving this instead...:D
