So my ABS and traction lights came on and I’m at a loss here… no check engine light has come on so my OBD code reader is saying there is zero codes pending or posted. I can’t read the ABS module from my code reader. I also cannot get the car to go into ‘sports mode‘. the button does nothing now.

so just those 2 lights are on… everything feels normal I think. no clue what it could be. Is this the possibly the dreaded brake switch problem?

Did anyone get the ABS AND traction lights both on for this? Ive seen mostly only traction light lit for this problem and intermittently, whereas my lights are on all the time from startup to shutdown and come on immediately every time.

I even killed my battery for 48 hours to try and clear the code and it just came right back on at startup after I reconnected battery…

3 options. I've had all 3 at one point or another and both lights can come one. Won't let you enter sport mode etc as well as the car isn't sure whats going on.

1) Brake pedal switch gone bad
2) Brake fluid res wires are loose / cap isn't on correctly / low on fluid
3) Wheel speed sensor is loose / bad

Thanks for reply bro, can you elaborate on #’s 2-3 with the following as it would greatly help me out:

1. how did you diagnose and confirm #2-3 given you use an MX+ obd2 (same as me)?

2. How did you fix both of these issues?

For #2 Just checking the brake fluid reservoir up front. For me one of the wires wasn't seated all the way. @bboixtc had the same problem but his cap wasn't on correctly. Once fixed the lights went away right away. The fluid should be to the seam on the reservoir.

For #3 I just checked all wheel speed sensors (located on the back side of the brake rotor) trying to find an issue and it was obviously not connected. Reconnecting the sensor and driving a little bit the lights turned off.

The Lotus 20/20 software should also be able to glean more information about your issue but requires a subscription and dedicated cable. More info here Lotus 20/20 Diagnostic Software

I actually started having the problem again. I realized that the fluid got a little low. I'm thinking because my pads are down to 2mm. Fluid would splash around in the reservoir. I topped it off and boom, problem is gone. Went to and from Road Atlanta without issue.

I’ll check my pads, but my fluid reservoir is kinda tilted a little bit. It leans to the middle meaning where the cap is is the highest point. At that point, the fluid is basically at the max line. On the other side of reservoir the fluid line is between the min and max line.

im leaning towards this being a brake related issue because as you said, light goes off immediately and remember I killed my battery for almost 48 hours and yet the lights came on immediately upon turning back on batt kill switch then car. this means to me that no drive cycles are involved to call up the abs/traction codes which I would assume both the brake switch and the speed sensor would require.

I had these lights when I took our Evora GT out of storage last spring. Disabled Sport mode and cruise control too. Fixed itself after a couple of engine starts. Dealer found a "low voltage" ECU code and accused me of letting the battery die over the winter... never mind that it was on its tender the entire winter and started strong on the first try when pulled from storage.

I've chalked it up to another Lotus gremlin. Hoping to take her out for the first spin of the season in the next few days if the weather continues to clear, we'll see if we get a repeat performance.

A clear reminder to all Evora Drivers with "dashboard lamp" issues: in 90% it is the Battery. Even if the Battery is "pretty" new... a small lack derving from a little bit low or damaged Battery issues a lot of optical effects. Change the Battery and all is well. This phenomena goes often to unbelievable light and/or default combintions in the Evora. (such as gearbox out f.e)

That doesn't sound right can you post a photo?

With flakey electrical gremlins you always need to load test battery and check your grounds from battery>Bulkhead>engine. Lotus are super sensitive to battery condition which needs to be load tesed not voltage tested to be sure. Auto parts store will do this for free.

Yea… Always a possibility no doubt.

But in my opinion jumping to a possible low voltage issue Is a waste of time if I haven’t even at least read the ABS/ESC module codes first. Obvious first step imho, behind driving 5-7 more cycles to see if it clears itself first. hoping it does.

Also, my battery is ALWAYS on tender, check for green light before every drive, lights came on about 10 min after car came off tender. I’m highly doubting voltage related on this one.

Data point: Took the Evora GT of of storage for the first time this season. I never took the chance to fire up its engine over the winter so it has sat utterly undisturbed for 5+ months on the Lotus battery tender.

Fired right up, no dash warning lights. I let the AC run at idle while dropping the tire pressures down, per that TSB about AC after long storage. Then ran a bunch of errands in it today. Flawless performance, and even more looks than normal probably because it's early in the season so nobody has seen a car like this in months.

The Lotus and I are both very happy!
