A few days ago, I finished installation of a new ACT HDSS clutch on my 2005 Elise. Here's a shot of the final assembly bolted to the flywheel with all bolts tightened to ACT's recommend specs. Yes, the clutch disk is centered to the crankshaft pilot bore.

Question. Are the pressure plate springs supposed to form a flat plane? I was thinking they all might bow out a little bit once tightened down. However, I don't have any prior experience installing clutches as a reference.

I'm imagining the throwout bearing pressing against the springs, and there sure isn't a lot of room for them to move.

Someone please say I'm being a worry wort!!!

Before you tightened down the pressure plate, was it sitting about 1/4" off the flywheel? ...about the thickness of the clutch disc? If so, you're probably good.

Yes, I'm guessing 1/4" gap between the pressure plate housing after I got the six bolts finger tight.

Boy I remember doing that!

Sure feels good when that transmission is back in place and you can put motor mounts back in and put the jackstand madness away under there.

Your on the downward slope getting it back together!


Do you have a lightweight flywheel? Boy if not now would be the minute... It def helps the car spin more freely and rev match too.

congratulations man.
I opted to not install a lightweight flywheel, mostly due to budget, and I've honestly never thought rev matching was that tough in this car. Spent my money on Penske's and upgrading a few things in the trans.

I don't have an ACT, but can say that my stock clutch and the exedy I installed, looking at the pp springs from the side, looks more like a mountain than flat.

Having said that, I don't remember noticing and change in PP spring profile between sitting in my lap and installed on the transmission.
