So my elise has been making a strange noise from the alternator area for two weeks or so, then today my car's headlights start flickering and my air bag, abs, and battery light pop up for a few minutes and she dies.

Now that's the story, here's the question:

Can I use any celica GTS alternator or should I try to rebuild it? I researched and seems like Lotus charges a nice bit for an alternator, so I'm avoiding that route.

Rebuilds are simple, if not the brushes it could be the regulator. Though one may want to find the cause, is the car old? If not, do you have a large amp in the car?

Celica GTS alternator worked for me. Just make sure you get the same pulley size. It was about $125 at autozone.

one of the best things about our cars are the fact that anything drive-train parts related is pretty easy/cheap to source as long as you stay the hell away from a dealer
