Just picked up a new Escort. Been using a ten year old BEL that just was not performing.

Never leave home without a radar detector.

I've only driven the car without it ONCE and i got a ticket.

Buy a good one too. in the $300 range.

I've had my BEL for twenty years and it still works great. Considered buying a Valentine for my Lotus but not having a detector keeps me in check not to speed.

Hired a ticket attorney to make my last one go away... case still pending.

I've been saved probably a couple hundred times. Lets me know well in advance. Around curves, over hills.
Still need to be reasonably close to limit. Often lets you drop back from the pack of
normal" speed vehicles to look like a good guy.
Some of the newer instant lasers pose a different threat. There are systems out there to deal with them, but I have no experience.

thats funny as hell - you really outran 7 state troopers? Guess I need a bigger supercharger....although the polikce officer i met today suggested a smaller one.
In all honesty - i was clearly stupid today, we all have bad days. Atleast it wasn't an accident.

So far I have been lucky, knock on wood. I have been paced many times, had several highway patrol perform u-turns to pace me, even had a couple ride my tail to goat me into going faster, but no tickets so far. On the highway I do 67 mph and let all pass me. I do tend to be very careful on when and where I "get on it".

The other day a cop was behind me and I turned to my wife and said "I'm fighting the impulse to just drop it into a lower gear and take off like a rocket just to see if he'll get the joke."

My wife convinced me otherwise.

I really thought it would be super-funny to the cop ... because who would ever do that!!?!!! It could be a really funny story for the cop to talk about when he got back to the station don't you think?

Cop: "I was driving behind this guy in a Lotus, he calls himself the "Zen Dude" and he just took off like a rocket!!! I caught up to him going 125 and then he just pulled over. When I went up to his window he was just laughing and laughing. And then he said "Got'cha" with a big smile on his face!!" rotfl rotfl rotfl

I have to believe that he'd just let me go. :D

Once you can tell apart the false alerts from the real alerts (even in great units like Escort, V1), it's a great tool for situational awareness.

I drive a 100 miles a day and never leave home without mine. While I'm not a speed demon (go 5 mph over), its very nice to know what's going on around you if you do decide to push the car a little.

Running from the law isn't a good option in most markets, our car is too unique to have plausible deniability when they see us later on the road. Perhaps if I lived in Hethel.
