doesn't look like they actually have the car yet - notice it says that it "has been ordereed"... and the car in the pic does not have the sport pack.

probably just someone with an early order that wants to make a buck.

Why do all the Ebay auctions for actual cars end early?

Kypton Green Elise

SY Elise

What's the story here?
I think in some cases it is pressure from Lotus Cars USA to remove an auction if it is a dealer selling the car.

Yeah... the ad also states that it will be available the week of August 9th.

LindaElise,

That seems to be a private person selling his car. That's totally out of anybody's control.

It's like Ticketmaster scalping their own tickets vs a private person doing the same thing. One is preventable by the company, the other one isn't.

Ok... I just got off the phone with Mr. Clark, and it seems that the car was actually ordered by someone and that person wants to sell it for profit. The car will be delivered by next week to a dealship in St. Petersburg, near Tampa and he stated that if I wanted it, he would see if the seller is interested in accepting 55K offer which is what its listed for now, without a reserve. The car has both a touring and sports package. I'm not to sure if this car can have both packages... but thats what he said.. <p>

We'll see what the seller says about the 55K!

If anyone is interested, the guy seems pretty cool - call him if you are interested.

I'll wait for my Chrome Orange, thank you very much.

From the ad:

Leasing and Financing is available for qualified bidders - please contact before auction close otherwise have all financing secured before bidding!

Hmmm... Sounds like a dealer, or at least some type of wholesaler of cars. I know that I don't have the connections to arrange leasing and financing for someone else...

I wonder if "dealer employees" placed deposits at other dealers in the early days. That could explain how some of the dealers are getting Elises at "wholesale auctions"...

I dunno - I wanna rumble with anyone who sells an Elise for profit when we're all sitting here waiting for ours.

I'm silly like that I guess....

why?

The dealer is acting like a middle-man. They are setting it up between the buyer/seller.
why would a dealer act as the middle man in this transaction? i know they can profit from selling their financing, but it just doesn't seem plausible that a dealer would be willing to sell a car to me for 44K and watch me sell it to joe schmoe for 55K

First, you CAN get both touring and sport packs on the same car.

Second, this smacks of a dealer selling a car for profit. Middle man? Huh? If I told the dealer I didn't want my car and could he please keep it and help me sell it at a big profit, he'd say 'here's your deposit. Sayanora. ' Bs. BS. BS. BS. (the BS meter is going to blow...)

Well... I personally think that they are acting as the middle man to find the buyer for the seller and of course make some money, not only from the financing or leasing, but from the actual sale.

Its 10K over MSRP right? ...and I'm sure the seller will come back with a "NO" answer to sell at 55K... Its now 7pm and no call back from the seller....
