Any fans of Arctic Silver?

There hasn't been much mention of Artic Silver in the forums. I was wondering if people find it too conservative, or just conservative enough?

Although all the colors are quite nice, I ruled out ardent and saffron for fear of ticket accumulation and worried that the car would appear too small with the darker colors. And somehow I associate BRG with a rusting MGB :)

My other choice besides Arctic Silver was the Bordeaux red pearl. It looks great in those Miata meet pictures but my apparent phobia of red cars still reared its ugly head.

I like the silver with blue interior. I have a car with that combo and was wondering if keeping a silver/blue TT and Elise would be too much.

I like silver but most importantly I dont get too many ticketts with my car.

I think a yellow car would attract too much attention of the wrong kind even though I think yellow with black wheels are very nice.

Silver with a quiet exhaust has saved me ticketts many times.
i ordered my in silver (#9 on my dealer's list - he called me last week).

I like the silver as I like to be a bit less flambouyant and don't want to be a ticket magnet.

I think blue interiors are underrated and underused. Silver/blue, white/blue, Blue/alcantera blue are all great combinations.
Definately thinking about silver

I'm definately thinking about silver -- I think it could look very classic.

Sometimes the Artic Silver looks almost white in the pictures (see attached) and sometimes more like the color of my Miata (a silver metal flake)

I like the white/silver look a lot but I can't tell if its real or just an artifact of the photo. When I was at the show in LA the silver looked pretty standard but the booth was dark

I love the silver. It is probably my favorite color, though I am now thinking of yellow. Or silver. No yellow. SILVER! YELLOW!!

Argh....
I'm having the hardest time choosing the color. Silver is my latest decision, but I think it might be too sterile. The green is nice, but I can't love it. Storm titanium looks great in some pictures, and terrible in others. I think yellow is the only one that really stirs my blood a little, but it's a cop magnet. Black is a wonderful color, but maintenance horrors are still vivid in my mind with my current car. Let me specify a color to sample! Ferrari's Grigo Alloy metallic.

This really is hard Randy! And isn't your order going in soon?

Good question. I am calling Symbolic tomorrow to see what is up.
what's up in SD

Randy,

Glad you survived the LA show. Stopped by but you had escaped for a while. The show area you were in was quite a zoo.

If you get through to Symbolic, please check to see if Beverly Hills remains a real dealer. I've got a deposit in LaJolla and am hoping the 2 dealerships don't get lumped together. That would translate into a really long wait given a prodution rate of 200 cars/mo over 38 dealers (now 37?).

thanks!

and I do need to talk to you about a camera mount for a harness bar.
I used to like silver, until I had a silver car...

The color got boring very quickly and I eventually got sick of looking at my car.
After originally having silver on my deposit slip, then changing it to black, I have now come full circle and and have (almost for sure) settled on silver. At the show, I loved the yellow but still don't think that yellow is for me, as a long-term car (I think I'd get tired of having a yellow car after a while - plus, I fear that it may get a bit too much attention than I really want). I was also really considering green but not so sure about that particular shade.

My current car (a miata) is metallic silver, and it's been a great color, with two exceptions - it's hard to do a good job of touch-up on minor rock chips, and (along the same lines) it's difficult for paint shops to do a good job matching exactly. But it doesn't show every little smudge or swirl-mark, and seems to be just visible enough, without shouting "look at me". Also I think that it does suit the Elise S2 body style, as it accentuates the lines of the car, unlike the dark colors.

I've ruled out black because Tony Shute said that in very sunny climates like So Cal, the starlight black looks "dusty" all the time, even when clean. It's not as nice as a glossy solid black, in his opinion. They are working on a solid black finish but so far it's not available on the Elise.

I'm going to order the Silver with red interior, as soon as Symbolic calls (hopefully soon!).

i just sent in my order for Arctic Silver. I chose it for a few reasons:

1) The silver provides the best contrast with all the black vents, accents, and interior

2) It is understated but still bright

3) It will not show dirt

I really wanted "a real color" for the Elise since almost every car i've ever had has been silver. However, the more i look at all the colors the more i realize that silver is simply the best choice on this car. I think i will probably have my Sport Pack wheels painted black when i get it also.

My friend ordered silver with red after seeing the silver car at LA which looked great.

Chris
plain old ardent red and biscuit on order.
I was gonna order Artic Silver until I read a report that concluded that people with silver sports cars get fat and go bald with in the first two years of ownership:D

PS: The same study also found that people with Bordeaux Red Pearl sports car have 50% more smile per hour. However overall kudos remained the same regardless of color:D

Folks who went to the LA auto show -- HELP!!!
The photos of arctic silver elises are surprisingly varied -- from more whitish/silver to a moderate silver similar to porsche arctic silver to a very dull silver.

Is the elise arctic silver comparable to a porsche arctic silver? Is it more dull or metallic in appearance? I know it is dependent on lighting.... but am looking for impressions from folks who have seen it with their eyes rather than via digitial camera to computer monitor (with variance all along the way).

Thanks much!

I was at the LA Auto Show, and you're right it's very tricky because the lighting in the hall housing the Lotus area was not so good. But after seeing this photo of a modern Porsche Arctic Silver, I'd have to say that it's probably pretty close.

To me, the Lotus' arctic silver strikes me as being a bit lighter, and somewhat less metallic (or perhaps a less coarse metallic), than my current silver Miata (1999). It's not dull, though. Hope this is of some help.
HI Dave,
It's a very light silver, from a distance it looks almost what under the lights.

Derek,
YOu should have read the full study which went on to say the Bordeaux turns into a disgusting shade of lipstick pink after one year's exposure to sunlight. :p
