If anyone out there that has any influence or can assist in finding a lost shipment at the Memphis hub I would show my gratitude with a monetary donation to the paypal account of your choice.:D
Long story short is I bought a custom Rover short block from a shop in Spain, the tracking ends last Sunday the 29th arriving at the Memphis hub. Calling customer support gets you a bunch of shruggs and why don't you just file a claim. The shipper did not insure the package for the full amount to save me on customs fees, bottom line is if it is not found I am out 7 large.
I do not accept that a wooden crate with an engine block just disappears into thin air, that's BS!! It's there in the facility, they're just not willing to put the effort into locating it.
If anyone can be of assistance and help a fellow Lotus owner that would be great!

Thank you!!

Sorry to hear about your nightmare, pm sent.
Wouldn't this be the point where it had to clear customs? On a holiday weekend, there's bound to be delays. The customs guy probably took a long weekend and has a huge backlog that he might decide to get to after one of his coffee breaks. At least that's my experience.

I agree that this is a possibility - I've had stuff sit in NY customs for a week or more sometimes with no tracking update. Very frustrating.

If it already cleared customs, though, obviously you're probably in trouble :/
Well, that would be great if it was just a holiday weekend deal but when I approached FedEx they told me they lost it and not that it was just awaiting customs clearance...
Man that's fricking horrifying. Is there any number info on the actual engine block? Something you could look for on eBay or Craigslist? Sounds like someone probably thought they "scored" big time when it "fell off the truck" and will probably try to unload it somewhere.
I recently shipped some electronics from Hong Kong to Alaska (R/C heli parts). FedEx tracking had it in customs, released, and then back in customs. During the last contact with them, I spoke to a representative that handled the customs processing exclusively. She said it was in customs impound with a large number of other shipments and that they had no way of knowing when it would be released by the feds. Funny story ... it was on my doorstep within 8 hours.

The moral of this story is that FedEx's tracking seems to break down when customs is involved. My item was in transit when I last spoke with FedEx, yet they showed it in customs impound.

I'd wait a week or so to see if it magically shows up. The other thing I might do is ask for a supervisor and try to find out where FedEx lost track of it. Ask where it *should have gone* after Memphis. Ask if they can do some sort of trace or physical search of where it should be.
I just started on Monday...I asked a fellow employee to help me out. He said he'll get me the warehouse information for me tomorrow.

I'll keep you posted on the progress...
Best of luck! Have you tried.contacting the customs people? They might help.
Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it!
I switched to UPS this week. FedEx damaged 5 diffusers in 5 weeks and then doesn't pay the damage claims. Lousy customer service on the phone. I hope you find your shipment.
Found it!

It is on an airport, so the person looking had to have access to the ramp area of an airport. Homeland security makes it next to impossible to have that access. The block got separated from the crate...my guess is customs. Since I have airport access, I was able to get to it...no one else would have.

They told me it would go out to day...enjoy!
*mind blown*
this place seems to be better "connected" than a Freemasons' lodge!
I have been know to travel from the west to the east...in search of the light.
Congrats to the owner, glad it didn't disappear into someone else's garage! Nicely done!!!

Outstanding...my head Fedex security guy hasn't got back to me yet. Mystery solved.

You actually laid eyes on it!??
This is such a relief I can't even put into words!!
PM me a paypal address for your reward! :D
Actually I only got to see photos of it...

Nothing was being done with it. It was just sitting in a catalog data base.

Next time...for future reference, include the most prominent numbers on the part in the shipping documentation. Safety wiring a name to the part would have helped too. Since none of that was there, they had no leads...so it sat...and sat...

Hadn't a knowledgeable person (with an unlimited airport access badge) been there, it would have continued to sit there until time ran out and then it would have been auctioned off...
BTW...that was the only block (and there were a bunch of them), that looked like a used Rover engine. So, let's wait until you get the engine block that looked like a Rover Engine from the fuzzy photos they had. She said she would ship it based on my say so... I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time), and you could get the wrong engine block! :(

This still has the potential for becoming another George W. Bush moment of "Mission Accomplished!" :facepalm
