My shifter had become extremely notchy and I decided to tighten the crossgate cable this weekend. I turned the heim joint in (shifter side) about four turns and found that the forward gears "snicked" into place like when the car was new.

The problem is that now the shifter goes all the way left and over the reverse lockout, but I cannot push it forward into reverse gear. How do I adjust the cables now that I've found the "sweet spot" for the forward gears? Should I adjust the throw cable?

FYI my 06 Elise was daily driven for 42K miles with no problems; the 08 S240 currently has 8K miles, Redline MT90 and GM Synchromesh. Any advice is appreciated.
