Last question. I noticed there is a hardtop requirement for Targa tops. I couldn't find where to contact the Chief Event Steward, Chief Safety Steward, or Chief Instructor for details around Lotus requirements. I'd prefer not put my hard top on but if I have to I can. Can you PM me any of their info or let me know if the Lotus is an exception (or not an exception).

I don't have a rollcage.

Hotels and Fun at Shenandoah

Does anyone have a good motel?
Hi Yeti,
You have several choices for hotels:

Shoney's Inn - Winchester, VA - It's about 20 min. from track, ~70/night. Decent hotel, decent price. Shoney's Inn & Suites - "Comfortable Place, Comfortable Price"

Inn at Charles Town - Charles Town, WV - ~120/night and 15 min. from track, this is the casino and horse track hotel and is really nice. Charles Town Races and Slots - Hotel

Those are the two I've stayed at. You can do a search in Charles Town, WV and Winchester, VA. Those are the closest 2 populated areas to Summit Pt.

Should be a fun event, I will be instructing too so I'll look for you...Unfortunately I don't track my elise anymore, but will have my Spec Miata there. If anyone wants to go for a ride, I should be able to take you out during one of the instructor groups..

You don't need a roll "cage". I always ran with my Hardtop on the Lotus, but you should be fine with the hardtop, soft top or no top. If you are driving the lotus, it has roll bar hidden behind the plastic and body panels, so it's not quite the same as a standard Targa top car.

The biggest thing is come out ready to have fun. Shenandoah is a fun track, but very technical w/lots of turns.

Be sure to do your tech form before coming out though! If you need a link to the form, just PM me.

Thanks for the response. I wish I could get a more concrete answer on the hard top piece because I personally prefer the top out.

I've done track events both with and without my hardtop with the SCCA... depends on how nice the weather is ;)

A friend wants to attend as well but doesn't have his own helmet. Does he need one or are there any available there for rent/communal use?
I have confirmed with the chief steward that loaner helmets will be available at this event. (and all DC region SCCA solo and time trial events I believe)

Thanks a lot Scott and AJ for all of the help. Looks like I'll be signing up!

Hopefully one of the Lotus Instructors will be my Instructor :D

Bob, it turns out that I'm not going to be able to make it for two reasons:
1) my car isn't ready yet (motor still disassembled); and most importantly, even if it was ready,
2) the boss says I have to go to Manhattan this weekend (so much for running my own business).

I now think my first track event of the year - not including a Skip Barber Advanced Racing School at Laguna Seca last week :D - will be the weekend of April 18th. EMRA is doing a HPDE/Time Trial on the Shenadoah circuit. EMRA's Time Trial Schedule I'll either instruct at the next SCCA PDX event on June 14th... or I'll be instructing the Mazda event at VIR (Grand course) that weekend. To be determined.
If you are a total novice to track events, it won't matter much if your instructor has the same car as you, but once you get some seat time I think it is helpful to see where the limits of the Elise/Exige are from someone who has found them, and then gone way the hell over them :panic:

Thanks all for the info! I have an Autox in Bowie on the 4th but just may cancel that for this :)
Any chance that Autox is still has open registration? Any info would be much appreciated! I've got a need to do some driving instead of just going to the JMU Car Show and Bowie is in my backyard compared to JMU... Thanks in advance. Dave

I could probably maybe possibly probably maybe not still get you into the PDX and/or Club Trial event even though the registration is closed. ;) Shoot me a pm or an email.
