Many people prefer the R888's over the A048's and they are around $250 less than the A048's for the set of 4. In your opinion are these the best value tires without ruining the "driving experience" of the car?

Yes. I just picked up a set in the stock sizes for the street: $182 for each front and $205 for each rear. Total for the set: $774.

Whats the lifespan of the R888's? I hear anywhere from 3-6k for the A048's.

Depends if you track or not. I've had mine on for 9-10k miles with some autocrossing and they're still good, but almost done.

They're better in the wet, better in the cold, and last longer.
Excellent. I think I am sold on these. :D

- Yes they're much better in the wet. I can drive normal highway speeds in the rain with these tires. Could even touch 100 MPH if I wanted to, though I wouldn't recommend it. With the A048s I would sh^t myself if I went over 55 MPH. Way too slippery.

- In ideal conditions, the A048s have higher grip, but they heat cycle out quickly, and in anything less than stellar conditions, the nod goes to the R888. I was flying around the auto-x course in early March in 30 degree weather with the R888s. My bud with A048s had NO TRACTION. I took his car for one run and there was no comparison. Could hardly go straight. Everyone who drove my car found it to be at least slightly faster than their Lotus and the tires are the only common denominator.

- Hard to tell with turn-in since it's been so long ... But I've heard the A048s are better in this regard. They are lighter than the R888s if that means anything.

Yes - better than the A048s in wet, IMHO, although I haven't seen the standing water thunderstorms that I've driven through on A048s.

Much better both cold and hot. I don't think I could post similar laptimes on A048s - perhaps under perfect conditions, but I would be on the ragged edge to do it.

Not as sharp. The car feels a tad numb as if it takes a set on the sidewalls when loading up in +1g turns and quick transitions (track driving) but it's very easy to get used to. I suspect the sidewalls are simply not as stiff but don't know for sure. On the street, I don't drive it hard enough for it to be very noticeable if at all.

What else?
They're much cheaper and don't go completely pants after a day or two at the track.

I prefer them over the 3 sets of A048s I had on my car before. They last longer and are better in the wet. Haven't tracked them yet but at least for street driving they are definitely the better solution.
How does the quality of the ride feel compared to the A048s?

Sounds like the sidewalls are a bit softer compared to the A048s but like to hear it from people who have driven both.

They feel the same on the street. Maybe a teeeeeeeeeny bit more soft. I am running stock pressures and stock LSS sizes. Can't really comment on heat cycling yet but my front A048s were shot long befor the wear bars even with only spirited street driving and the same has not happened yet on the 888s.
