When you get your Liz, do you plan on *ever* parallel parking it?

What will happen if it gets "tapped" by some other inepet person parking in front or behind?

I try to never parallel any car. It scares me. :( I only parallel park when there is no car in front or behind me and there is little change of somebody parking in front or behind me.

The same thing that happens with any other car. it gets tapped.

I plan on treating the Elise like a car. Drive it, park it love it. I'd be as careful with the Elise as I would any other car I'd own... except one....

I'm not parking it at the movie theater.

Well, frankly, its not just "any other car" because it doesn't have 5mph bumpers, and, actually, it doesn't have any bumpers at all. I see it having virtually no protection from impact whatsoever.

How resilliant are the clams? Will they take a pretty good whack from another car and not crack/scratch/break?

Yes. I refuse to live in fear.
I wish I had a choice in the matter. Unless I have no alternative in the situation, I will find other suitable parking. Worst case you pay a little money, get a little exercise and return to your 'liz w/ a smile:D

Parallel Parking?

What the hell is that?

Doesn't sound like something I would do. ;)

I'm having the batmobile shield installed the day I get my Elise.

I get really nuts about my parking habits. I am sure I am not alone on this forum about this, but I find it odd how much trouble and time people spend looking to get the closer spot. It's almost a game I guess and you win when you score the close spot. I often park at the farther end of the lot and see the same cars still circling for the "better" spot as I enter the building.

Better to me gets a formula applied to it. End of row gets more points. End of row with my car on their passenger side (less probability of a passenger) gets more points. Etc.

I will parallel park it, but it will depend, mainly on the other cars and how long I will leave it. For a short time, between some more expensive cars... maybe. Behind some beater truck? No...

I don't know what a "Liz" is (some kind of lizard??), but I'll try not to have to parallel park my Elise. But then again, I can't remember the last time I had to parallel anything.

If you do parallel park, and someone else parallel parks in front of/behind you using the "feel the bumper" method, your Elise will end up with some stress cracks - if you are lucky. If you are not lucky, you better hope the other party has good insurance - and that they stick around and take responsibility...

How do you get "Liz" out of Elise - That's ignoring the whole tradition of Lotus car names starting with "E"...

I am paranoid. Even with my Bimmer. I usually get a ride from the security guards at the malls. That's how far away I park from everybody else!

With the Elise I will be happiest when it is safely dormant in my garage.

How about hiring two people to follow in their cars and park next to you at all times. It will be harder to get a spot but it is worth it:D

I'm scared to death of my Elise getting beat up and I'll walk before I park in a spot I'm not comfortable with. It will be the nicest vehicle I've ever owned (by a lot) but IT IS JUST a car. If you spend all of your time trying to avoid letting it show any wear how much will you enjoy it? I don't anticipate enjoying owning the Elise nearly as much as I anticipate enjoying driving it.

Hmmm... maybe Randy should give us a conecam solution for parking. Maybe two lipstick cams, one for the front of the car, one for the rear... facing out the windows... turn it on when you park... It'd be nice evidence if someone really backs into the car hard and takes off.

The fiberglass will crack. Usually requires a complete new clam.

Also remember that the Elise front is way below the bumper height on most other cars, so they will ride 'over' the nose and crunch/crack it higher up.

In case of 4x4/SUV's they may even ride up onto the nose (happened to a few guys in europe.. while sitting in the car and honking like mad... scary...)

Bye, Arno.
