When I was in my accident the other car was undrivable in an area with no cell service so he hopped in my car and my GF went in the back n we drive back to cellphone land n made the necessary calls. Always good in a pinch.
I'd say there's a pretty narrow band of ages where they are useful though. They have to be big enough not to need rear-facing seats and still young enough to need a real seat. I installed them with the seat belts, not LATCH, except the tether which loops over the harness bar and clips in under the seat foam.
