I have a 2005 elise, OEM exhaust.

Are the exhaust tips an uncoated metal, or do they have some kind of clearcoat on them. I ask because the metal polish I just purchased says its only made for uncoated metals.

thanks.

easy to tell.

clean the exh tips.

lick the exh tips.

If you taste metal, they are not coated.

See?

While I know this was funny, I wasn't kidding.

I read about the "licking" technique from one of my favorite vendors (to whom I am unconnected):

Car Care Specialties - Quality Car Care Products

He used this in relation to wheels, i.e. how to tell if clear-coated or not.

On the phone i mentioned how funny it was.

"Did you try it??"

"No, I'm waiting for the same night I fertilize the lawn."

But, yes, it works.

It works even better if you drive the car for about 30 minutes right before you lick the exhaust tip.
Hey, whatever happened to that "First, do no harm" stuff???
