Hey,

Looking to replace my battery, it is not cranking too well and it is pretty old, so time for a new one. So, the question is, what would you all recommend? I'm not racing the car or anything like that. Just your normal use and occational spirited drive :shift:

I'm hoping the battery you a recommend would be available at normal auto parts stores, my car won't start without a batter booster as it stands, so need to do this quickly.

I don't know about the newer Esprits, but the battery in my '86 was an odd size and the height of the battery case was critical since the battery cover was part of the trunk floor. If you put a non OEM sized battery in the battery well, the battery cover would be at the wrong height which could cause problems when putting things in the trunk. In fact, when I got my Esprit it had a shorter in height battery than OEM in it and something placed in the trunk had broken the now poorly fitting cover which exposed the battery terminals. Fortunately nothing shorted those terminals which could have easily caused the car to burn to the ground. If your Esprit is the same with the battery location in the trunk floor, be sure to replace your battery with one of at least the same height dimension.

I use an optima yellow top. Plenty of juice, and as batteries go, not terribly heavy.

I wouldn't bother with the race batteries and super-expensive lightweight stuff. In an Elise, it makes a degree of sense, in an Esprit, not so much.
