i'm pulling it off to install a blocking plate to cover the stock exhaust hole(s), and want to clean off some of the old exhaust and road crud while it is off the car. But i don't want to scratch the heck out of the aluminum. Is there a good approach to this?

I purchased a toilet bowl brush with plastic bristles and cleaned with the same stuff I use to wash the car at home.

This stuff works great. Around $4.00 / bottle. I've used it for years on the diffuser, undertray, and exhaust tips.

We can powder any color :)

But to clean the stock diffuser, I used a micro-fiber towel with a flathead flathead screwdriver in it to get the sticky rocks off the diffuser. Rattle-can it with some high temp matte black paint, good to go.
