Just took delivery yesterday.

For the break in period, what seems to be recommended for gearing and shift points? I'm used to the following but want to know if any of you have other opinions:

Shift point at 3500-4500 RPM.

1st gear - 0 to 15mph
2nd gear - 15 to 25mph
3rd gear - 25 to 40mph
4th gear - 40 to 50mph
5th gear - 50 to 70mph
6th gear - don't know haven't gotten' that far yet!!!

Can't wait to get past 600 miles and the first service at 1000 miles. :D

I don't remember what mph, but generally just tried to keep the engine between 2-4.5k rpm.

Biggest thing is to vary the speed and the RPMs. Don't cruise at one speed for very long, and if you do, shift gears and let it run at 3,500 RPM for a while, then shift and let it run at 2,800 for a while, etc. Keep things varied.

Don't forget to rough it up a bit, too. There's nothing wrong with an occasional jaunt into the cam.

Could not agree more...the owner's manual itself states we should be considerate but not "too sympathetic" to the engine during break in. This will assure better performance after break in.

General "wisdom" is that extreme cases of aggressive break in treatment may actually improve short term performance at the expense of longevity. That's not recommended, so the key is to strike the right balance during break in, avoiding droning along at constant revs and lengthy stints at high revs.
