I was shocked to find my rear engine mount has a crack/tear in the rubber - has anyone else seen a failure like this? My car is 2005 Elise and I don't drive it very hard.

Going to use a BOE replacement. Reading through the posts about more vibration with stiffer mounts has anyone any thoughts on how effective the damper on the original mount is as I will loose it of course. Is it something Lotus added to the mount?

I predict you'll be very happy with a BOE mount.

More vibration? Yes.

Less engine movement, easier shifting, and better throttle response? Also yes.

BOE mount is in and what a change! The car feels much more alive, quite a bit more vibration but only at very low revs, I guess I will just have to drive faster. Gear change is notably smoother, much, much better.

A very easy installation but tricky to get at all the bolts with a torque wrench.
