How 'bout them Washington Capitals?
My goal is to watch Ovechkin retire, having never experienced gratifying chill of a Stanley Cup in his hands. /bitter Lightning fan :crying:

No doubt...

Since we are comparing the 430 to the baby McLaren, just want to throw this in.

With the price of the very nice 430 growing past what some of us expected, comparing to the McLaren is natural. They would appeal to a similar audience.

The interiors. The McLaren has a very nice interior design. Out of the future. Special. Complements the body styling well.

The 430 interior is to my taste worse than the original we had in our 2011 S. Just like that front end. Very squared off, unremarkable. Sure they get some alcantara into some cars, seats are nice enough, but it’s just not attractive overall. Much less impressive and modern like the exterior. Looks like the interior of a Ford Econvan in comparison to the 570.

Rant is over. But for $150K plus, I need something a good bit better

Back to OVE... Tampa Bay is the land of winter haters so they don't even deserve a hockey team, let alone one invaded by the vitriol of the Rangers!! Ovechkin is probably the greatest active player without a Cup engraved. I'm black/gold to the core but when Bruins went down it was time to cheer for that squad of topshelfers.

430 as we will eventually get it will be a refesh of the 410 we have now. If they stick with 150K, we just wait a year and they will be offloaded for 100K. I'll be waiting for one that way.

I think the 430 is awesome in both photos and on paper. It has certainly piqued my interest. But, with the usual delivery delays to the US and now the issue of Lotus appearing to no longer support the initial Evoras, I can't see myself dropping $150K on one.

Its also very concerning that the already difficult parts availability may be getting even worse or nonexistent for our current cars. It makes me wonder about getting parts for a limited edition 430. I'm pretty sure the (limited) GTE owners are already in that boat as well.

Hopefully I am wrong. Admittedly, I have been many times before. :scratchhead:
Hadn't heard that parts are harder to get now for the Evora. Is this becoming a widespread problem? Been thinking about buying an Evora for about a year or so . . . .

I'm not sure if the dealers who have mentioned it are 1.) 100% correct or 2.) 100% truthful. But, I know that parts I've order in the past have come in anywhere from a few weeks to 5+ months.

Honestly, I hope its not true (or at least they are wrong). It would be great if parts are still available for many, many years to come.:up:

I won’t post his full response out of respect, but he was very candid with me and basically confirms Geely is making changes (that the CEO had already started) to cut costs and he is of the opinion that the S1’s could see some discontinued parts in the future. This was his opinion, though, and he did not confirm seeing any parts dropping off at this time.

Side note, great service from Lotus Garage... I called to get an update on an order and Robert took care of it for me while he was out of the office. They will definitely be getting all of my business on parts.

Seems short sighted to discontinue support for the S1 Evora, a car that is still relatively new, especially when you are currently selling a later version of it (if that is indeed what’s going on).

Cost cutting is a continuing operation, and especially when a new parent comes into the picture, they may want to step such efforts up another notch. Investments are allotted to certain operational functions, and doesn’t mean more money across all sectors of the business.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that the S1 Evora is a relatively new platform and parts manufacture MUST persist for a while to come... This car is just so new that you would be gutting existing customers and likely hurt new legacy sales further. It just seems plain dumb IMHO, IF that is to be the case.

I also truly believe that IF parts discontinue (that aren’t carryovers to the 400) they will be more like interior trim panels and such more so than critical parts to keep a car running. Robert mentioned this possibility and it makes good sense to me.

IIRC a manufacturer that is currently selling new cars in the US is required by law to manufacture new parts for 7 years after each model year. For instance Lotus will be required to build parts for the 2014 S1 until no earlier than 2021 if they wish to sell new cars here.

Can you cite this law somewhere?

The MMWA assures that parts must be available for the duration of a car’s warranty period, and I have seen this cited many times, however I have never seen any evidence cited on manufacturer requirements to have their third party contracted companies produce parts for a given period of time beyond the warranty period (which includes the 8-year emissions parts under warranty that they must produce).

This is a subject that pops up often on the internet, but I’ve never seen proof of it (granted also I’ve never looked very hard).

I could be wrong, but I’ve always thought of this as a kind of wives tale.

I don't, just something I heard through the grape vine, probably from a car salesman when I was looking at a Pontiac G8 haha

Federal emissions performance warranty is 8 yr/80k miles but this means only a few major parts are required to be stocked; major as in Cat converter, ECU and TCM. (California is all emissions parts for 7/70) Doesn't mean body, trim and suspension parts will be available, nor the engine itself.

Many parts from S1 Evora's are still used in the Evora 4** models, some are even shared with the Exige V6. Some parts from the Evora 4** could be used to replace / update S1 Evora parts i.e. drivetrain mounts. Combined, I'm guessing there would be 70-80% parts compatibility between the different Evoras.

Many parts of all Lotus' are sourced from larger OEMs - not just Toyota, but international automotive component suppliers : AP Racing, Bosch, EFI, TRW... its a long list :). I'm sure over the years, forums like LT will identify alternative sources / part numbers to buy the component directly from source.

Despite lower than planned Evora production volumes, specialists have started to offer parts to repair or upgrade : rear toe links, steering rack knuckles, brake discs, exhausts, coilovers... Just like early Elises, specialist will increase the number of parts available as Lotus OE availability dries-up. For example its fundamentally the front & rear bumper mouldings differ between S1 Vs 4** Evoras bodywork - these could be made from GRP.

Even today you can order newly manufactured chassis tubs from Lotus Cars for the older Type 111 cars.

So its a fairly small number of parts that are unique to Evora S1's that are likely to 1) not available at all 2) be faulty & not fixable 3) be damaged beyond repair. In future years if it required a Group Buy to get the tooling dusted-off, these actions have been done before by the Lotus community.

Heres to many years of future Evora motoring :)

You may want to review the parts lists before staying with that claim. many many many parts are a new number not just a revision letter update.
