I agree it appears to be an air to water system. What perplexes me is, it appears before the supercharger, where the benefit would be minimal.

It looks like that hardline/softline piece is going to a secondary air injection for cat warmup on cold starts. So just a fancy flow stack intake on a metal box?
I'm new to these engines so I could be way off. Don't think its an Air to water box though.

Exactly! :facepalm
To me this looks like a very expensive way to add weight to your car...
The terrible thing is that it was actually done to TWO cars!! I can only imagine the $$$ they spent to have this special "charge cooler" setup done.
Anybody have any info on this system?

The first car is definitely an air to water intercooler. I have used the same unit myself (not on a Lotus). Maybe the car is turbocharged?

Not sure about the second car, unless it is also turbo and the filter is just on there as a joke or to keep it clean while working on it?
