I've never had to take a car in for any major work since I've lived here (with the exception of my RX7, but that's another story) so I don't have a good mechanic as yet. I need to get the clutch replaced on my '91 NA MR2 & have been quoted close to $900 by two mechanics. That seems a awfully high.

Anyone have any suggestions for a less expensive mechanic? Preferably around the Hollywood/Glendale/Pasadena/Burbank area, but I'm willing to drive if it'll save me a few hundred dollars.

I'm trying to keep all my pennies in the Lotus jar. ;)

That does seem high, I wonder if they were quoting the cost on a turbo? I think I had mine replaced at a dealer years ago for $3-400...

Sorry, no So Cal recommendations for you.

I found a guy through the MR2 message board that's doing it for $650 including parts - still a bit steep, but it seems more reasonable.

The last clutch I had replaced was on my 914 in '96 for just over $400. damned inflation.
