CA salvaged Elise

Hi everyone, my name is John and I'm new here! I lurked around for a couple months and finally registered. I'm looking to buy my first Lotus since falling in love with a friend's. I can't even describe my state of my mind while driving that car! I guess "ecstatic" will have to suffice, not that I really have to describe it to you guys!

I found a 2007 CA salvaged Elise that I'm really interested in and was hoping that someone with Carfax can look it up for me as the auction venue told me they really don't know anything about it. The pictures show that it only has damage to the front clam, but it states that there was a collision with damage to the undercarriage...

I'd really appreciate any information anyone can give me on it and I can't wait to become part of the Lotus community!

Edit:
Are there any car dealers here from the San Francisco area that are going to the 1/14/2009 auction in Martinez? Please contact me!

Rear looks... offset?...

if there is undercarriage damage there is likely frame damage, FRAME DAMAGE CANNOT BE REPAIRED.

Get some pictures of the underside of the car. If that's not attainable, stay away.

I figured the same and explained to the auction company why I need more info on the car. If it has frame damage, it truly is totaled and I wouldn't buy it. They said they don't have information on it as they don't lift the vehicles and take pictures of the undercarriages.

He is right by the San Jose yard, he might be able to go to martinez to check it out.. I can do it, but I am in Sac.... For you it would be too expensive to get me out there...

Thanks, I appreciate the contact info.
I have been told it has frame damage, what did you find out?

Nothing yet, I meant to call today and got caught up with other things. It has to have frame damage, but the visible exterior of that car is nearly flawless, save for the clam!

I've been watching your Elise on eBay for a while. I wish I could rebuild that thing. :(
You are thinking about spending thousands of dollars on this car. Wouldn't it be worth spending $30 on a Car Fax?

I was going to get a Carfax. The auction venue will not give me the full VIN and thus I cannot get a Carfax. This is why I asked for any dealers in the Martinez area that are going to the auction anyway.
