I am looking for a safe child's seat for my Exige (not a booster seat but something that has an integral and dedicated seat belt system for the child).

I purchased a Sunshine Kids'; Radian seat for the Exige. Despite it’s silly name, it is considered by some to be one of the safer and better seats on the market but unfortunately, there is no way I can tightly secure the seat down with the Lotus belts—both the buckle receptacle and the top belt anchor are too far forward to secure the seat down no matter how much weight I put on the seat while pulling the belt taught.

If you have any positive or negative first-hand experience with a child seat in the Elise/Exige, I would appreciate some kind help.

I've seen the post about the Britax Bodyguard but it does not seem to be avaiable from Britax anymore and is also just a booster. I've also replied to a post about the Eddie Bauer Seat and am waiting for a response from the writer.

I've read the threads regarding the safety aspects of using a child seat in an Elise/Exige and am not interested in this thread being jacked by preachers. I do recognized the importance of that discussion, and for those interested, some can be found here:

I am not aware of any current child seats that will fit in the Elise or Exige. I am not sure that this will help, but I am using the Compass B500 booster seat. Target now shows the B510 booster-compass : Target Search Results that looks like the same seat. It is a nice seat with lateral support for the child and his/her head. It seems to work fine for my little girl, though she is technically too young for a booster seat. She is four, about 32 pounds and 38 inches. I did have to cut off the cupholders to fit the seat, but that took about 5 minutes with a coping saw.

Incidentally, I'm the one that thought it best to leave the airbag on. I do pull the seatbelt out to full extension to engage the ratchet so she cannot lean forward. I have also yelled at her about keeping her feet off the dash (airbag).

I have not crash tested my setup!

I have a britax bodyguard and it fits perfectly. I just checked and there are at least 10 for sale on ebay. It is most definitely a full child seat, not just a booster seat. 100% recommended.

I'll go home tonight and check the brand that I use for my 6 year old.

For others who use booster seats do you lay something down between the booster and seat so that it does not damage/imprint on the Lotus seat?

I'm not sure of the brand, but I've been using a child seat for a few months now. The fit seems fine.

I just received the Britax Bodyguard from Ebay, new yesterday. The base is expandable. At the minimum setting you still have about 1/4 inch on each side that you can expand it to fit within the perfect range of our car seat and your child hip size. It's a full seat, the back is not detachable as far as I can tell, the side impact protection on the face and body is awesome and the back is thin so your child is not too close to the airbag. My child is so psyched about the seat , I just have to take her out on the Lotus today. :D

Edit: Took my child out today and she had a blast. I also figured out how to take the back portion out. It's not mentioned in the manual. You basically have to expand the seat fully and then pull one end of the attached back portion and slide it out of the rod. All in all I'm pretty happy with the seat.

I started this thread in hopes of finding an Exige friendly child seat with built-in seat belts (not a booster that integrates the car belts for the child).

I was not able to get either the Britax Marathan or the Radian Sunshine 65 to fit snug and secure so based on cjennings recommendation in post #5, I tried the Amazon.com: Recaro Young Sport Child Car Seat.

Success! The seat fits very nicely in the car, and the stock seat belts secure the Recaro very snugly. The only incompatibility is with the Recaro's left side seat height adjustment knob with the Lotus handbrake however the knob is plastic and easily hacked off (See lower photo below). The knob is molded to a shaft that also has a knob on the right side so there is no loss of functionality after the removal.

I was however very surprised with the construction of the Recaro. The Young Sport Child Car Seat shows a very high level of performance and assembly design but construction materials seem to be very simplistic. The actual seat (under the cloth cover) seems to be made of "big wheel" type plastic and is screwed together like my child's Little Tikes playground toys. While I was able to secure the seat base to keep it from wiggling, the head support wings and side bolsters moved a bit--in fairness, this could be designed to soften any impacts--I dunno. It seems to be the exact opposite approach of the Britax Marathon that we have in some of our other cars; the Marathon is completely solid with tight assembly and very sturdy construction but a very simple design.

In conclusion, I'm happy with the Recaro Young Sport Child Car and would recommend it to fellow Exige owners. It seems safe and my son appears to feel comfortable in it. :)
