Color/Option Regrets?

2419 Views 37 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Surferjer
Since I recently got "the call" and placed my order for options, I was wondering if any owners have regrets on the color or options they picked. Many of us are buying colors and options sight unseen.

I suspect that the thrill of the car itself has outweighed any regrets, but wanted to get your thoughts.

Glad I got Starlight Black. It is the best metallic black I've seen.

Glad I did not get the Touring Pack. The standard cloth seats and aluminum window cranks rule.

Glad I got the Sport Pack. While the ride is definitely firm, it still seems soft for "street legal track car". Couldn't imagine the standard suspension.

Wish I got the Hard Top. But only because I live in the northeast and the softtop does not seem like it was made for a pile of snow.
I have to decide on a color by December. I'm not likely to be able to confidently choose and know that I won't regret it later because I've been trying to make this choice for about a year.

For me it's not picking the color I like the most, but rather choosing the color I hate the least. I don't love any of the colors.

It was a great relief when I decided on the chrome orange. I felt pretty good for a few weeks until someone pointed out that it looks like the team color of the UT Longhorns. I live in Austin, home of the Longhorns. I don't want people thinking I picked the color as a sign of worship for the local team. Honestly, I've never watched one of their games and have no desire to.

Now I have to choose again. I'm thinking about forgetting the whole thing and waiting to see what the color options will be next year.

Buyers’ remorse is almost a guarantee in my case.

Given the great abundance of colors, one has to wonder: which color would you want to see?
TripleBlack,

Funny you should respond first as I've been torn between black and ardent red from the start. I agree with you on the standard interior though, the cranks rock! I'm also getting the LSS and hardtop. I think the hardtop will remain in the garage most of the time, but I figured it was best to purchase it now rather than later.

I generally prefer solid color to metallic. If the black was solid it would be a no-brainer for me.

How does the SB look in the sunlight? I'm worried about the gold undertone.

No regrets with LRG and biscuit touring package. The car is beautiful, and great to drive. Didn't see the need for LSS, as I won't be doing much track time, and since she'll hibernate all winter, I didn't see the need for the hard top. I prefer driving her topless anyway. Very glad for the star shield too. And I will be more happy for it when the Elise finally gets to Alaska next summer.
We have like minds.

I agree, if you are even considering the hardtop, get it because it will be twice as much later.

Red is also a favorite color of mine, but unless you are an attention slut don't do it. I have black and I have to budget 5 min of talking in and out of wherever I go. That's in addition to people taking picture phone shots of the car as they drive. On the plus side if I wasn't married I could hook up everyday. With red, twice a day:)

Jet/Solid black is my favorite. I almost got graphite gray because it wasn't jet black. But I've pretty much figured that black is my color. This is my 9th black vehicle, some solid, some metalic, some better than others.

This metallic is great. There are no gold flakes, only silver. They are very fine flakes. Smaller than most, closer together than most. It is more like a tint. In soft dawn or dusk light there is a slight graphite tint, very cool.

Since I'm married and not looking to hook up...i better get black.

At any rate, I'm glad my wife doesn't read this...;)
colors and options

Originally I was going with BRP,tan leather touring package w/hardtop,but I saw Robert's "snuffy" and realized that LB was for me hands down the best color, plus the fact that I didn't even know that LB existed ( the other blues are too dark in my opinion) until I was on this site in sept.So I had placed my order originally in may, changed it in october(after a 3 week waiting game with the dealer/LCU/Lotus...Lotus/LCU/dealer) so now I'll wait 2 more months for the privilege of the fantastic Laser Blue.
I too had a hard time choosing colors. I'm glad I went CO but the bottom line is that this car looks good in every shade of skin it puts on. Therefore, I tend to lust afte whichever color I happen to be looking at (sans AB) and made color selection difficult.
I have no regrets at all getting BRP. It's a very fluid and changing color which really surprises me sometimes. I do regret not getting the LSS, but that's behind me now. I'm glad I got touring. I like the sound deadening, cargo net, and the leather. The leather feels great for autoXing.
This is a good thread....

I have to make my final decision in December or January and am having a tough decision on color and options.
Color choice has been narrowed down to either Lazer Blue, Saffron Yellow or BRP. Not going with touring package because I like the crank windows and bare aluminum interior, and will probably get the seats filled with a little more padding for the lumbar area and maybe leather.
Not too sure about the LSS option. I would like to take it to the track a couple times a month and get into autocrossing for sure. I am not sure how much better the LSS package makes for the track and autocrossing.
As for the hardtop, I am moving down to sunny California and thought I would not need it, however from reading many posts I am now thinking about getting it for the track days and autocrossing. I thought you could autocross with the soft top.
Regardin the color. I was going to go with Yellow but I see from the many posts that yellow is probably the most common color and that is why I am now thinking Lazer Blue, especially if they are thinking of discontinuing it in the near future. LB would be more exclusive. I am origionally from the Toronto area in Canada, and when I visit, it really would not matter what color I have, I would get massive attention even from an unpainted car since they are not sold there yet.
A lot to think about.
Oh ya, starshield for sure.

This was exactly the same for me, I mean exactly. Same original choices and I knew I had to change once I saw Robert's Laser Blue. I will have to re-order at the end of this month and wait a bit longer, but I certainly don't mind. Also, I hope this will keep me from getting my car in the middle of winter and out of storage. I will most likely keep the same options including touring, ht and starshield.
Had put my order in March. Didn't have a whole lot to go on. Came close to changing color to CO, happy with SY.

Did try to drop the touring pack- was a week too late. Could have done it but didn't want to wait the extra two month delay. Do like the look of the hand cranks. The cloth seat at the LA show looked bad, the production version look great. So yeah a mild regret but one I'll be happy to live with. :D

That is true you do not need a top for autocross.
Originally I was thinking ST or Silver with red or black interior, Touring, Hardtop, LSS and StarShield.

My wait was over one year and found a Racing Green with Red interior, Touring, Hardtop and StarShield.

By the time I found the car I was already thinking in dropping the LSS since it rains here enougth to worry about it.

No regrets so far on color or dropping the LSS. Racing Green with red interior is just gorgeous and the most important thing is how the car drives, so actually any color would have done for me, even AB!!!!!

Not a single regret. I love my car exactly as it is. I love the look of the crank windows but the associated problems combined with all of the advantages of the other items included with the touring makes it a no brainer.
triple black_nj

thanks for the links, missed your posting these last month.

the black on black takes the breath away, kinda like when a gorgeous brunette walks in the room ...

enjoy your ride!
