Well, not quite, but I did have two unrelated sightings of Elise* on my home last night.

One was a red LSS in Malibu, If you are on here I was the guy shouting at you from the beat up cougar. As I was coming up behind I was trying to make out what exotic I was following from the light shapes. It took me a while.

The other was a Black (or very dark other colour) in Santa Monica at 20th and Olympic... again anyone on here?

I think the jury is still out, but it's reasonable, since none of the other iterations roll off the tongue.

I've always used Elises.

But we can always add this to the Great Car Name Controversy.

Me too.

But remember, according to Colin Chapman, the plural of Lotus is Lotus.

Huh... I thought Loti worked well...
A lot of people use that, but that's not what Colin stated, and he gets (actually got) to define it...

I think there was another post about this guy in his Elise being chased around by some guy in a beat up Cougar yelling stuff at him. ;)

I still have yet to see one in my area. :(

The word Lotus is Latin. In Greek form, Lotos. Plural form, Loti. As for plural form for the Elise. It's just Elises. A female Elise, Liz (j'k). Elise is a girl's name anyways. But in the end, does it matter?

Except that Colin Chapman "made up" the name. It's not derived from the Latin or Greek words. He never said where it came from, and his widow (Hazel) won't tell (if even she knows). There are lots of stories and rumors about how the name originated, but nothing has been confirmed. One common legend is that in the early days of Colin buying, modifying, and selling used cars, he had a number "left over" and the list had the title of "Lot Un-Sold" which became "LOTUS". This seems to be one of the most persistent stories of the origin of the name "LOTUS", but again, it's never been confirmed - Colin would just smile and change the subject when ever anyone ask him...

Bottom line is that Colin "invented" the name "Lotus", and he declared that the plural was "Lotus". Of course you can feel free to call the plural whatever you want - when speaking, I tend to use "Lotuses" because it sounds better to me. When typing, I try to use "Lotus"...;)

definately, we should get together. i've driven down the palisades and up 9W several times just for the hell of it. i bought my car at maplecrest in summit, nj. the 4 of us "local boys" should set something up. maybe like a once a month ride or something. it may be a little too close to winter at this point, but we may have some nice days left. we could pm each other our email addresses so we can work something out.
