It'd be great if it had a remote display switch so you could display it after the cop gets behind you. I think he'd be rather confused. :D

Engineering doubt: When the plate is in storage, it is underneath. There is little enough room down there and this would be just as bad or might be worse. :(

Seems like it sits under a 1/2 inch lower, I wouldn't think it would hit everywhere ;) My car isn't lowered thought.

Without such a device it would be useless, once you've been pulled over it is too late to get out of your car and put the plate down

The electronic version on the Mustang is cool, but there is realistically no room in the Elise/Exige for this mechanism.

This will be alot more realistic and can be achieved.

that's a pretty cool way to make the plates unreadable to red-light camera's

but the fold-away is really appealing for those who want to have no plate in front blocking the air intake
-or just to make the car look better, because the Elise/Exige front ends aren't really designed for plates!

How does that work/fit on an Exige-S with front/chin splitter?

This would be real easy to engineer, it is a two axis function. Can be done and hidden with two electric drives or two small pneumatic cylinders with a tiny compressor or airtank conected.

Could even be done with one axis on a slide.

Maybe a winter project

Along the line of this hidden plate, years ago, someone made a "hidden plate" for his Elan.

The plate was hinged from the top in the air intake. The retractor was hooked up to the vacuum system - when the engine was running, the vacuum pulled a diaphragm which pulled on the of the plate to pull it up and into the intake opening.

If a cop pulled you over, you turn off the engine and the plate was in position.

I may need to do something here. The small town I live in just hired a new cop and he's out to make a name for himself. He's already handed out one "no front plate" ticket that I know of.
