Has anyone gotten a quote from their dealer on how much the stone chip protection kit will cost? Thanks.

Check out Sector111. They have both the 3M kit & Invicta.

Talked to SVAG about it yesterday. It'll be clear armour (3m). Within a few days of getting a car will have there local shop make up a kit. Best guess at this point was $1.2k installed- in line with the cost of a Ferrari. I'll check back with them later to compare it vs buying a kit & having a good local shop do it.

I think that is a very good guess for the dealer option.
Shinoo...

Can you see if the people you are havng cut kits can also do the area under the doors and behind??? That is part of the dealer option kit and I think it would be a good idea for those of us that autocross, even if as an add on option to your kits.
Randy- Had already checked out Shinoo kit, belive optional kit item #10 ($162) will cover what you/I are looking for.

OH! I thought there were two different kits. Now I see it's a standard kit and then optional bits/package. Thanks!

Shinoo... nevermind. :) Well, save me a kit and those optional bits... and some rims... and shower cap... and car cover.
$1200.00 WOW! That's alot more then I thought. I fugured 500-600 hundred tops. I'm a little confused also about a post that all cars coming to port were getting this stone protection. How would that work? I was never asked if I wanted it as a dealer option.

On another note I watched the 3m installation video. It really didn't look to bad as far as installing it. Then again looking easy and actually being easy are 2 different things. Anyone actually do this?
1fast,
I think the post meant that the chip protection would be done at the port (or more likely the distribution center - San Diego or Brunswick GA) on cars for which it had been ordered.

I talked to a professional putting the film on at LCU before bham, he said the nose is pretty hard to get right. ALso of note, he just used 12-16" wide sheets and trimmed as he went. I've installed this stuff before on motorcycles, it's not too easy. I think the nose hood will be a killer.

I'm not going for the protection> I'll probably put strips on myself on the rockers, Arno said this area took the most beating.

Word I heard was that applying this to the Elise was very skilled labor time consuming.

Chris is correct. I think I posted that in response to someone that thought these would be done by the dealers.
At port or at dealer?

gvoeller went to Atlanta for a 2 hour visit and stated:

"The clear bra will be a dealer installed option and covers front, sides and behind rear wheels."

Lotus Cars USA Post

But like everything else, things will sort themselves out with time.
I possibly misunderstood someone from Lotus, or both could be correct in a way.

It's a dealer option for sure. I was told that the installation would be done one all arriving cars by the contracted vendor at or near the port. I don't know if I can mention the vendor yet, that data was supposed to be going out to dealers any time now.
i read somewhere it was around $241.

Didn't i already mention it was`Starshield that got the contract with Lotus? Could have sworn I did.... is that some sort of secret?
I had my M5 done for $325 and it uses a lot more material than the Elise will, I would expect under $300 !
Sector 111, basic pre-cut kit alone is $327. In talking to a local 3m installer prices ranged anywhere from $250 to $1000. The cheaper price for a full size pickup.

From what I've been hearing from the board, it will be alot of fine detail work for the Elise. So the upper range is more likely what we'll find. If we're lucky might find some one to do it on the cheap & if we're real lucky it might look half way decent when there done. Think the cost has more to do with labor rather then material.

$620 for 22 little pieces of adhesive-backed plastic and a video. I tell you, SOMEONE is making a hell of a profit margin on that one. I had my 2002 Turbo Bettle S (which has lots of little surfaces needing covering) done for less than $500 including labor. They are just ripping us off because our cars are 'exotic'.

I was expecting around $700-$800 installed.

At those >$1k prices, it may actually be worthwhile to have a regional meet, fly in one of the hotshot film applicator guys, and have him do a batch of our cars. Most of the pros use straight sheets of film and cut-to-fit.

I'm guessing it would cost much less, get coverage to suit your needs, and get it applied correctly by a pro.

Unfortunately, most people are going to want it applied on Day 1 when they take delivery.

I'm on the fence -- on one hand, rock chip suck. But some of the film-jobs I've seen have been even worse.. cobweb bubbles, ugly seams.. I'd rather just have a few road-earned chips and a clean finish.

I'm trying to get out of the Garage Queen mindset and $1200 film just seems over the top. I'd like it just on the door sills, though.

And I would expect Bikinis to cost less than a full dress. :)
