I recently purchased a new key Fob - the car only came with one Fob from the previous owner.

In the process of learning how to program the new Fob - I cam across this page - http://gglotus.org/ggtech/elise-alarm/elise-alarm.htm

By following the procedure for "Immobilizer Active Arming" - you no longer need to carry the key fob to start the car. Simply get in, turn the key, and press the start button. If you want to lock the car you have to use the key in the door.

It also saves your battery since the immobilizer / alarm are not activated - no more flashing red light on the tach.

Now I have 2 key fobs programmed that I don't use. :facepalm

I've been preaching this gospel for a while now; unless you want lighter weight, I don't see the advantage of bypassing the immobilizer with jumper wires over this method. I do keep one fob in the car though in case the alarm does decide to go nuts for some reason though or if I want to have the microwave sensor active.

Just removed mine completely this weekend, one of the best mods I ever did, no more worrying about the car leaving me stranded because the damn remote battery died. No more alarm glitches either. Good riddance.
did you have to remove the seats to get behind the bulkhead or was this all accessible through the passenger side dash panel?

sounds like something i should do over the winter

Only the passenger seat has to be removed. The access is better if you take them both out, but it's not a necessity. It's a fiddly job, as Edd would say, but not difficult.

This is the thread I used for help, pretty much explains it.
