Just changing my pads now and having just finished the front I realize that the new Carbotech CT1599 don’t have a backing like the original AP ones do.

Do I need them?It’s for chatter/squeal right?

Should I pull the AP ones off and use them in the new pads?

The thin metal shims are just for anti-squeal. Not entirely necessary for braking function, but I'm not a fan of that horrid squealing noise, so I always have them on my pads.

Yeah I decided to do it. After I had just finished the front! Since I had all the tools out anyway.

Why do it right when you can do it twice is what I say!

Hmmm, haven't used those in years and never have any noise issues. DTC70's were that good on street?? Have EBC Orange on rear with ne rotors so we'll see how things go over time.
