Hi all! A couple years ago I was planting a new flower bed and dug up this tag (sadly, no car was attatched). It's been sitting in a shadow box since, as I had never heard of Lotus before and had no idea what the logo was for. On a lark I typed Lotus in on ebay and discovered that it was a car company... I tracked the logo year to 1987, but can't figure out where on a car it might be used. So maybe it's a keychain? It's 1 7/8 inches across and 1/16" thick. The green enamel areas are recessed (and still full of dirt as I can now see in the photo) and there's little gold/yellow left (there are remnants of it on both sides and edges). It weighs a little over an ounce, so it seems too big and heavy to be for keys, but I just don't know. Do you think it's something that someone would want? What might it be worth? I considered posting it on ebay, but don't know if it's worth my time if it's just junk. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me!!

It is from the 1986-88 era. In 1984 the logo changed to something similar to the above, although without the ACBC monogram, called the "Wickins" badge after the then CEO of Lotus David Wickins. He wanted a new look for the badge. Removal of the ACBC caused a ruckus though. Just after G.M. took over in 1986 the ACBC monogram was restored. This one is the "Wickins ACBC" badge.

Once you figure out the price you want for it let me know. I may take it off your hands.

I believe that Mike Kimberley was the person responsible for the reinstatement of the ACBC monogram, but I'm not 100% on that. Part of the above mentioned ruckus was MJK almost quitting...

Someone will have to email him at Group Lotus and ask ;).

BTW, the ruckus was not just because Wickins removed the monogram. It was because he wanted to rid the company of all Chapman association, hence the change from ACBC's original badge design and the removal of the monogram.

Thanks for your responses...I don't feel so bad now that I see that even the experts have no clue what exactly it is! I'll keep watching this thread for a while just in case someone is able to identify it, and then maybe stick it on ebay to see what happens. I'll keep you posted!! And, hey, if you do want to come do a dig, I've been wanting to put in a pond anyways so you're welcome to make the hole for me! My neighbor did say that there used to be an inground pool in my back yard that had been filled in...hmmm, could there be a car under there?:)
