A Porsche guy I know is arranging a drive around the Quabbin region of Western Mass, this Satuday, March 22nd. I've been on a few of his rides and have found them to be well organized and spirited.

If you are interested in learning more about the drive, please PM me, and I'll give you contact info.

Are you kidding?!?!? There is sand on the roads still & it's going to KILL your paint, it acts like a sandblaster on fiberglass!! No Way! :thwack:

Let the porsche guy go, he's got a metal car.

I'll wait a month, thank you.

The organizer checked the roads, recently. Here is his report from yesterday:

"Spent today up in the Quabbin area laying out final details for the run this Sat.It is just beautiful up there. The roads are in good shape, no salt, and no sand. The actual park road has some sand, but it is a no salt zone, speed limit is low in the park but the views are unbelievable. The weather forecast looks good for Sat. so please join us!"

Although last night's snow may have brought some sand/salt with it, I trust the organizer's judgement.

Of the several concerns I have learned to have about my fiberglass car, sandblasting has not been one of them. But I am willing to add it to the list.

How does paint behave differently on a fiberglass body than it does on a metal one? Wouldn't a good coat of wax and clear bra (StarShield) do as well on an Elise/Exige as it would on any other car, regarless of what's under the paint?

Having run my Miata (plastic nose, aluminum bonnet) through the desert at 120 mph, I would recommend protection not only for your front clam, etc, but also be aware that sand will pit your windshield. Perhaps some clear mylar would help for that?

Looks like I have to go see the dr. on saturday at 11:30 in Reading for a referal. Bastards won't give me the go-ahead over the phone. If I skip it, it'll cost me like $600 for Monday's visit with the specialist.

This NELLI thing, is it an open drive and lunch or just lunch for members? I'm pissed off at the doctor and looking for maybe something to do after my short yet inconvenient appointment. Thanks.

I should note that the best way to stay informed of NELLI events is to join, since that gets you on their mailing list.

I don't know much about Saturday's event. Contact:

President: Mark Michalski, [email protected]

For more info. It might be a good time to learn more about it. Let Mark know you're coming then join us for lunch.

Bruce, the folks at Hethel who put the Star Shield on your Elise (and on virtually all of the Elises imported to the US) are all scratching their heads right now :)

Some do drive them all year round . . . but I'll probably take a different car to the NELLI meeting.
Saturday afternoon is going to be 45 or so. That's warm enough to go for a spin. I'll probably take the Elise then drive about afterwards.

Well, Mr. Esprit, if you take your Esprit out, then I will too. How's that! Just kidding Will, don't hurt me....

My star shield has some marks on it from things scrubbing against it so they do mark up from road debris.

Bruce :shift:
