Hi All--

Little more than a month ago I was a looky-loo. Now I have a 2005 Nightfall Blue Lotus Elise parked in the garage.

Many thanks to Sorinne (AgentTripleX) at Cars Dawydiak for finding a killer vehicle at a good price.

First order of business: buy a radar detector (done-Escort 9500ix...lots of red light cameras in my area)

Second order of business: yeah. stock speakers suck.

Look forward to making it out to to the NorCal drive on Sunday and an autox or two.

Original thread QA thread here.

Cheers,

Cap

Welcome and congrats post pics.

Radar detectors don't detect red light cams. Red light cams use sensors in the ground to calculate your speed and timing if you will make the red.

The 9500ix is GPS enabled :) And I just updated the database. No excuse for stupid/inattentive driving, but like having the safety net. Hit the 2nd cam (on accident honest!) on Sunset and can see how a reminder of upcoming speed zone will come in handy.

Welcome! As the "Newbie" from Maryland all I can say is that the folks here are really great. I can't believe the welcome I got including an impromptu meet withing days of getting my Lotus.

We have lots of red light cams where I live but even worse was a recent country wide blitz to install speed cameras everywhere. Fortunately most of these are easy to spot due to timing marks on the road, however they also have speed photo cars that they park randomly - these s#ck!

So, drive it like you stole it and watch out for the cameras!

In LA they have to post up signs when you are coming up to a intersection with red light cameras.

Speed I understand, if the road is clear and conditions are appropriate, but I just don't get it. Why get a detector to warn you of a red light camera? Just STOP for the red light, as you should. . . always.

Congrats again! Thank you for your kind words. Let me know if you want to set up your audio like mine. If you need a little more seat time in my Elise, we can do that too. I'm über happy with the quality, features, and set up. Can't wait to see triplet NFBs tomorrow. :coolnana:

My audio guy also hardwired my V1 so you can use him for your Escort 9500ix.

I am not a redlight runner. To be more precise, the key function of the 9500ix that appeals to me is the ability to lock out the bajillion garage door openers in my area and mark known speed traps on a location basis. Would like to feel comfortable opening her up from time to time, and I want to reduce the manageable risks to the extent possible.

Remind me to get their info from you.

Look forward to meeting the Lotus gang tomorrow.

Stone Cold Steve Austin likes a cold Mai Tai after a day of match racing that's (sailing for you inlanders).

Just got back from an ~150 mile zip around the Peninsula. SF->SC on 101 and back to SF on 17->101 (stop at Fry's)->280 back.

Total blast. Still getting the feel of her and didn't really open it up. My shifts are lousy. Handling is a treat. Hardest thing I did all day was getting it backed in to its spot in the garage (sort of a dogleg right w/ all sorts of pokey bits to worry about). =P

Fun fun. :)
