Anyone considering making their own mesh grill to replace the fins? Anyone have pics of the mounting points for the various fins?

YOu can also get this alum expanded metal at places like home depot.

You'll need to create a support frame as without support I think it'd flap a bit.

I like all the HORIZONTAL louvres on the Elise but don't particularly like the cross-hatched "egg-crate" front grille. I want to eliminate the vertical pieces of the egg-crate. (Yes, I know it is one-piece plastic) I am assuming they went the "egg-crate" route because it is structurally more sound. Is there a way to fabricate horizontal strip pieces of the grille from a stiffer material like aluminum? Would this hold up? Maybe with one or two nearly-invisible clear acrylic vertical support members? Perhaps attaching to the rear of the horizontal pieces? I would also want to eliminate the vertical pieces on the front inlets on either side of the grille. What do you think?
what does DYI stand for - Do Yourself an Injury? ;)
I want mesh grills to replace the fins too, to look like the ones on the Exige. Arno says the Exige ones don't fit. Autostyle Solutions supposedly makes mesh, but doesn't respond to email and only halfheartedly posts to SELOC. I expect to find a way to make my own once I've got a car.
Just curious,

Would it be ok to just leave all the plastic grills off? I'm going to see how it looks with nothing and if I like it, I just won't put anything else in there. I don't think it would hurt anything. Anybody else?
I don't think it would hurt anything if you removed the fins. It's not like they prevent rocks from entering the inlets anyway.

If refering to the front,They might be useful in preventing the car from ingesting tree rats, birds, racoon, small mutant dogs and cats though.

plastic bags, leaves etc... the grill does serve a purpose.
