I got the velocity funnel ( last part missing ) yesterday morning and did the installation in afternoon. It took me 2-3 hours to get everything done. The K and N filter was very easy to install my problem was with the coupler. It was too big. I had to cut it 2 times to fit nicely.. So here are the pictures as promised.

I drove the car 2 Km after the installation but the road were too dirty to test it (They put sand and calcium on the road snow is coming ). I did snap the throttle in 1st gear one time and rev the car to may be 7000RPM and it look like the supercharge make more noise. I like that.I cant wait till next spring to hear it again!!

NoFear99 wich code is the coupler?
I suppose it's better than the all straight in black fitted by others.

I can't find no one seller that ship them in Italy!
Anyone knows where to find spectre parts in Europe or a seller in Usa ready to ship international?

Or maybe a Elisetalker Usa address where i can get delivery and after he can reship to me at my cost?

What do we think about this intake? I have it on my NSX and it works grate.

We need some one to build one for the elise...
is there even anything like that for the elise?

there seems to be a misunderstanding of what the ECU tries to do.
it attempts to get the A/F mixture to a correct ratio.
if you can feed the engine more air, the ECU will trim to the correct A/F ratio.
it may see a slightly lean mixture temporarily, and this may appear as a HP gain, but as the ECU learns, the A/F mix will return to the correct ratio.
that said, if you feed it more air and fuel mix, you still have more HP as a remanent net.
the actual gain may not be significant but there IS a gain.
isn't this only partially true? the ecu can only learn in closed loop mode right? there's also an open loop mode? where a set map dictates the amount of fuel that is injected...

if ecus could learn at WOT then there would be no need for tuning.

Intake Mod & Green filter

Hi all - I am a newbie here for a month or so. i see eveyone's pretty positive on removal of the snorkel and installing a velocity funnel with intake coupling. i found the spectre 8878 funnel for under $6 and a red 3" coupling (spectre 8772) for around $3.50 on amazon (search those spectre model numbers). The black coupler was $13+ so red was fine with me. So the whole deal was under $15 including shipping! While I had the wheel and wheel liner off, I went ahead and installed the Green Filter that was also highly recommended on LT (pain in the butt installing the clips on the filter box, but just get a dremel or file and file down the tabs on the filter box then squeeze the clips as hard as you can). Even after cleaning up the tools, it took two hours. No parts left over and not even one cut:)

Just took it out for a 30 minute test drive. I like it. I have a Top Speed Pro 1 exhaust and now you can hear the intake noise from the vent on the driver's side (where the intake nozzle is) along with the exhaust noise. I think it's a little deeper in tone with the intake (or at least i am hearing the exhaust and intake in stereo). also when the 2nd cam kicks in, you can really hear the intake growl.

Anyway, for my 2 cents worth: cheap mod, sounds good (can't really feel any difference based on my butt dyno - Green Filter says it adds 4-6% hp increase, but i seriously doubt that). A  from me!

Thanks to all the previous posters that made this one easy for me! Regards, Syd

Well... I did this mod this morning and while I was at it I wanted to check how my air filter was doing after 3000 miles... and...

WHAT THE HELL!?!? No air filter!!! Been driving around and it didn't even have an air filter.... Wouldn't have been so bad if there wasn't so much construction by where I live... This sucks.

Getting back to the mod... I removed the tubular thing and then added an air filter. I couldn't hear any audible difference but that's probably because I didn't have an air filter on before... The car did seem to run smoother though, then again I will never know.

WOW - that sux about the filter. glad you checked it before anymore mileage.

I just stopped by the local pep boys. They had the velocity funnel for $22 and the 3" black coupling for $8! if any others do this intake mod out there in LT land, do yourself a favor and buy these items on amazon.com. My funnel was less than $6!

WTF! that's bullsh*t. After 3k miles my air filter was dirty than a mofo. which means all that crap would have gone into my engine and damaged it.

Bad News

That is not a good thing----not a good thing at all. Maybe talk to the dealer first, but if I were you I would keep a sample and also send a sample to a "oil analysis" firm. Sounds like a lazy mechanic??. Document EVERYTHING on this . This could be a big deal----------Sorry,but I had a similar problem, with a forklift,of all things. It did not end well.

i kid you not.
Going change the oil this weekend hopefully there will not be any crap in there.:(

then taking it into the dealer on Monday

When you drain the oil you should put a filter above the oil waste bucket.

...i just took a look through the grill on my own elise last night only to discover the snorkle laying loose, unattached to anything - perhaps the previous owner attempted this mod at one point and didn't reattach the snorkel completely?..regardless, i don't have any sort of jack by which to get in there at the moment; i hope i can live with it loose until i take it in for servicing in a couple of weeks...

It is simple enough to manipulate it to either re-attach, or better separate and temporarily "wedge" it back (and out of the way) in the well/recess space back there - without having to remove the wheel. In fact, when I first de-snorkelled, this is exactly what I did. The single "screw" that holds the snorkel in place to the airbox is crap plastic - and chances are, it could have even just worked loose, and fell out on its own.

if you reach in right through the top of the engine bay, and grab hold of the (pressed fiber) snorkel - you can then pull it better fully away from the intake box, and wedge it tightly back as far back in the rear of the cavity there as it can go, and it won't go anywhere, and will be just fine like that, for awhile if you like, so you won't have any worries about it either bouncing around, or causing any problems in the interim until you can get better at it.

In case anyone was wondering... I performed the oil change with a fine strainer and did not find any particulate matter. So I guess I'm ok *knock on wood*

Also I replaced the temporary FRAM air filter with a K&N... There was a marked difference between to two in the way it sounds making it more throaty.

It doesn't look like the plastic tube sticks out of the airbox far enough for the hose clamp to work very well. Seems like the assembly would be pretty easy to pull/fall off.
+1... I dremmeled into the frame of the airbox to create more of a lip for the hose clamp to grab onto. (sorry, no pics). Careful though, it's easy to accidently carve into the airbox. Ask me how I know... I filled in the hole with silicone. At least it was on the dirty side of the filter.
