I'd like to semi-permanently disable the lockout collar/mechanism, but leave the door open for restoring it later if necessary. I think a couple of set screw collars on the lockout cable should do it, allowing me to remove the collar from the shift rod. I'm planning on machining a steel H pattern shift gate, so the lockout mechanism has to go.

Was wondering if there was any potential issue driving around with the lockout in the "always unlocked" position, aside from the obvious intent of the lockout. I feel like the lockout is overkill, given the position of reverse, and given that there's a resistance "hill" to get to reverse, just like Porsches(which don't have a lockout).

Any concern about damaging the transmission driving with it in the up position?
