FWIW; I installed the Kumho Ecsta XS 215/45R16 and 245/40R17 on Cup wheels with absolutely no clearance issues. I now have around a thousand miles on them. Very happy so far.

I am in need of new tires (all four of them) soon. I want to change it up a bit because I have been using the same base tires on my 05 Elise (Yokohama Advan AD07) since i first bought it. Been through the base tires 3 times.

I am looking at the Yokohama AVID Ascend. Would I be cutting it a bit close from going to a 175/50R/16 to a 195/50R/16 (Front - In terms of rubbing the wheel or rubbing the wheel well)? The rear would be no problem since it matches.

so i needed to tires badly...looked and looked online and i was being a cheap skate honestly..

I wanted something with some stick and didnt want to spend a grand! wanted stock sizes...right no real contenders out there...the kumho ectsa is honestly not the right tire for the elise... i had them they sucked!

so as i searched discount tire direct i noticed that they had a tire in the right sizes but it wouldnt show up in the "matched set".

so i orderd them...

GT radial champiro uhp1... 200 treadwear. i think the entire set cost me around 300 bucks!

had them installed and WOW i am impressed. for the money they are well worth it for a street daily driver car. they stick great the feel great they cost less than my monthly latte bill.

highly recommend for those of us that are on a budget. now yee neighsayers....keep it to yourself and just spend your hard earned dollars on some r888 or a048's and leave us poor people alone...

I had a set of the GT Champiro tires on a beater. Besides the fact that they are made in China, they are decent....for a beater. The reviews say that they don't last long though.

of course the uhp1's don't last long they are a 200 treadwear! I expect 12-15k out of them just about the same as the ad07 from lotus base.

I did a 120 miles 70-80 mph today in the mountains at 45*F... handled great and were smooth grip was not a problem at all...

Not sure what the following all means (but the numbers and kg I understand) but they are the lightest forged wheels and wide enough to handle most tires.
They fit good and the car feels significantly better with them and the weights and widths were as advertised (which is a nice change compared to Rotas).

I know this is an old post but the RAC Monolites are actually almost 5 pounds lighter (54.56 lbs for above versus 49.764 for RACS). The above are 8.5 rear width versus 8 for the RACS. The TRMotorsport F1s are even lighter, but smaller widths (6.5 and 7.5 respectively). The Monolites and the F1s are forged.

This is exact height up front and 4.5 mm taller overall diameter in back... no rubbing issues. 2016 Nitron fast road singles. Car currently is about 6mm lower than stock LSS.

I just change my tires in order to pass the ITV(TUV) in Spain and I am getting the Traction control interrupting the car way too much.
If I'm going in a straight line its fine until the second cam kicks in. Now going around a RoundAbout is a problem or accelerating while turning...

Both tires are directional tread.

I have:

215/40R17 87H XL pirelli (brand new)
195/50R16 87H M+S Kuhmo

any word of advice ?

sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere (*I didn't see these on the Lotus-EliseExige-Tires-Rims.xls) but has anyone successfully or unsuccessfully tried 185/55R16 Sumitomo Tire HTR A/S P02s on their front Lotus Stock (BASE) wheels (the 16" with 5.5" width)?
