OK, if you get a humane trap, and relocate the mouse, that mutha is coming back! I barley want to get out of the lotus, but it's a bit too small to live full time in. That mouse has one sweet home. He's probably been filmed for the MTV cribs of the rodent world and is throwing down mad parties up in your dash in the middle of the night. That would be like if I knew a entrance to the Playboy mansion and after a week or so I was discovered and humanely relocated a few miles away. You bet your @ss that I'd be on my way back about 2 seconds after being "released" haha.

If I had mice under my lawnmower, I don't think moving them to the woods would have been my first choice for disposal. :D
You mis-understood. I didn't humanely move them. I got several in an old fashioned mouse trap. Then I added moth balls in the storage shed, and that helped. Finally, I put rat poison pellets in the shed and then I had no more mouse problem (I figured they quit coming into the shed from the woods).

Now the garage is going to get lots of mouse traps and rat poison. I may rescue abandoned raccoons, and injured birds, but I show no mercy with the rodents.

My wife found it rather funny, that after I had told here about the mouse, the new issue of R&T arrived, and she read Peter Egan's most recent column. She thinks that Peter and I have a lot in common, and many of the things that he's gone through, I've gone through. Then yesterday's event and yesterday's column...;)

I spend a large part of the weekend taking apart the front of my car and removing the very large amount of fiberglass insulation that the mouse had moved into his living quarters. He packed the area under/behind the wiper motor and down toward the heater ducting behind the radiator. The fiberglass insulation appears to have been "borrowed" from some exposed batting in the garage. I also had to search the Elan to make sure that there was no evidence of mouse in or around it (there wasn't). The garage is now liberally "seeded" with rat poison and several traps - no mercy.

Solved the mouse problem? Newport European is fixing my Elise this week. Don thinks mice were birthed in the intake system. The mother mouse/rat used the new air filter as bedding and chewed a fair amount of intake as well. No wonder the car just wouldn't run with all that filter confetti and living creatures trying to be sucked into the engine.

At this time, no internal engine damage is suspected.

While I try to exterminate the varmints, I will try to use Vincent electronic repellents in and around the car, as I do not drive the Lotus daily.

I heard that the fabric softener Bounce will keep rodents away. Fact is, I kept seeing droppings in the engine bay until I put those sheets in and around the bay/boot. I just didn't put any in the intake (rolls eyes).

My wife's SUV which she drove more than daily also had buildup of crap in the engine compartment. SUV was a night hotel for them, I guess, while my Elise that sat up to 2 weeks after air filter change from Newport Euro, etc., became a nursery. Don has pics which he might share if he wants, online or otherwise.

Bleah!!!

here's the follow up to that bounce solution

Here are the details as I received them in my email a few days ago.

Subject - Bounce This Along

My mail carrier told me that the US Postal service sent out a message to all
letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep
yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am
working outside. It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you.

1. All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer! It will chase
ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are
sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too
often.

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when
outdoors during mosquito season.

5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.

6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your
television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8 To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a
drawer or hang in the closet.

9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of
Bounce before beginning to sew.!

11. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside
empty luggage before storing.

12. To freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front
seat.

13. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with
water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently
weakens the bond between the food and the pan.

14. Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom
of the wastebasket.

15. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will
magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

16. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with
a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

17. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce
will collects sawdust like a tack cloth.

18 Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at
the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

19. Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or
sneakers overnight.

20. Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

21. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and
storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

22. Quick, bounce this on within the next 5 minutes! Nothing will happen if
you don't, but your friends will be glad to hear these hints
