This is not an Elise vs. Exige thread. I already know I want the Exige. I love the Elise but the Exige... I cant explain it, and I know its stupid because the elise is the same thing (I will never notice the downforce) and its 10K more. I hate having to make a big payment! So I would have to save for an extra year to get the Exige. Waiting to get my first "fun car" coupled with having to spend the extra 10 grand that I could definately use on something more constructive, all to get the same car makes me think Id be crazy to not get the Elise next summer... then I look at the pictures of the Exige's!:crazyeyes

Well, if you don't get the Exige, you'd miss a whole year of fun. You'd probably never notice you don't have an Exige.

If you do wait for the Exige, you'll be happy with that, but you'd still have to wait another year. You've already been waiting quite a while.

I'd go for the Elise and add a wing and splitter.

its wierd because when the Exige came out it was 10K more than the Elise right? So you would think over the next 2 years the price gap would start to close a bit but 2 years later Exige's are still a solid 10 grand over Elise's.

edit--- then again I dont see 06 Exiges selling too quickly. I think alot of people are deciding to go with the Elise while Exige owners refuse to go under 40.

It's because there are many new, unsold Exige S's available for relatively low prices. Once those go, the world can return to peace.

I was in the same position as you; I could have waited for '08 for the SC Elise that I knew was coming or I could buy my Elise.

Chose to buy my car and I have absolutely no regrets :D

Odds are you really won't notice the difference, besides having a nice rear-view mirror you can use... unless you're a track junkie then I don't see why you shouldn't get an Elise, heck even if you did you'd still do really well out there.

But you should get what you really want, I'd hate to buy car A when I really wanted car B - as my godmother once told me, some things in life you just can't settle for...

Realistically though yeah you'd have an extra 10k for almost the same car, what it comes down to is personal taste. Just be sure you won't feel bad buying an Elise when you really want an Exige, it won't make you as happy imo, and maybe even a little sad to think about what it coulda been...

The Elise should be able to put a smile on your face, just be sure you don't regret your choice!

I'm ran across a few threads that you've started and I am a bit confused:

it seems for someone who recently was deciding between a 996TT vs Exige:
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51118

or who can drop $3,500 on a trailer in a heartbeat:
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52802

or who's looking into acquiring Vintage F1 cars:
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53395

or a classic Ferrari for under 80K:
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46174

or a classic Aston Martin (nothing newer than a DB6):
http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46400

what's an extra $10 grand for a "playa" like you?

Here are my rules:
- Buy a "toy" car in CASH
- Buy a car you WANT
- Talk less and ACt more

Have you checked out pricing on new 07 exiges? Or something used? - Buy from a board member or dealer & make sure it's under warranty still and you should be fine - These cars can take the abuse!

My $0.02

uh, Im a car enthusiast and enjoy learning about cars. You have way too much time on your hands, alot of those threads are over a year old. However you might want to actually read those posts. Who said i was looking to acquire a vintage race car, Ferrari, or Aston Martin? I said I would like to have one someday, every one of those threads is asking about the values and if there are any left that are still affordable.

I found that 996TT's are available for low 40's now, it made me think twice for a day or two but ultimately decided to stick with the Lotus.

I do landscaping and need an enclosed trailer.

does that cover everything?

I agree with this. Just do it already. You've been talking about it for over a year now :D

I know it can be a hard decision, but it shouldn't be!
Yes. Do it as soon as you can.

You're wasting valuable driving time...:D

Elise or Exige.

They are both so much fu*king fun!

This is your first 'fun' car? The Jag in your avatar isn't yours?

If you've got a serious Johnson for an Exige, save and get one. Just think about how you're going to drive it, though. If you are just going to do street driving, you probably won't notice any difference at all in driving between an LSS equipped Elise and an 06 Exige. A blown Exige is a different matter.

Otherwise, the view out of the windshield is identical, the interiors are more or less identical (except the seats, LOVE the Exige seats), and the street driving dynamics are identical.

If you just want to be seen driving an Exige, well, also know that the average civilian sees almost no difference between the two cars, other than noticing maybe the wing...and thinking it was a 'ricer' add-on from JC Whitney. I've had my Exige parked side by side at both British car shows and open car shows with Elise's, and the average schmoe actually sees little to no difference.

A Darth Vader black on black Elise with hard top and nice wheels looks every bit as evil and menacing as the baddest Exige, except for maybe Ronin's. And his is an Elise with an Exige rear clam.

Did it have all 4 wheels at that price? :crazyeyes

It's a toy car, don't stretch yourself financially for it. waiting might be better
Yeah man - it's amazing how low those 2001's are going for now! I am seriously tempted to replace my "family car" with one - but the back seats are so small and my kids are getting bigger

I was in the same boat as you, other than I could afford either right now luckily. I test drove an Elise and loved it, was all set on one in 05, then the Exige came out in 06 and I fell in love again.

With that said and an 06 Exige sitting in the garage, I think I probably should have went for an elise and put the Exige rear clam on and the new carbon 240S roof. Would have came out about the same in the end other than the seats and front splitter.

But then again I love messing with my cars and would have enjoyed doing the conversion myself.

My advise is to start looking at some pics of Elises with rear spoilers on them, that is what originally turned me to the Exige, the back of the Elise (to me) just looked like it was missing something.

unless you're going to seriously track the car -- the 996TT is really good value. I don't know what kind of condition the low 40's car is -- but the 996TT is a great road car.

I thought about that too but the front clam is different also, then theres the side scoops and nicer seats. Front and rear clams are like 8 grand right? so it wouldnt be worth it to spend the money and if you did, you had better hope you never wanted to sell it!
