Just went to check out an Elise S1 for sale and I'm planning to use it for daily commute as well as occasional track days. When I test drove it, the rover engine sounded really raw at high revs (I used to drive the S2 with the toyota) and the shift stick was really stiff (ESP tough to engage second). Just wondering if anyone can comment on:

1) Tracking the Rover K series engine (that's about 12 years old, car was orig reg in 2000)
- what's the likelihood that I will need to change all the internals!? Or something blowing up.? ( car has under 50k miles on it)
- engine was 'officially upgraded by lotus agent' to 135bhp

2) Gearbox - is the S1 gearbox really significantly stiffer than the S2? ESP if anyone has driven both?

Appreciate your comments! Tempted but cautious! rotfl

The S1 is such a cool little car. I can't help you, but i am very jealous that they are street legal in Singapore. At one point they had a pretty cool turbo for that motor also. Post pics if you buy! Good luck.
