Feel free to contribute to this list - I'm trying to get an exact breakdown of where the heck all the weight in a Federal Elise is.

The weights in the top part of this table are from a recent post. The weights in the bottom are wildass guesses from me - and I know I've forgotten a whole bunch of stuff... Thanks!

I read somewhere that the AC is 22 lbs. I think the SAE article.

Funny how all the little things add up so quickly isn't it...

Yup imagine how in something really complex and weight-critical like a modern commercial aircraft, every little item just compounds. One of the things I appreciated about working for McDonnell Douglas (Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach) back when, was being on a project team where you really got a sense from the inside of how something you did (beefing up a fitting, say, for strength) had an effect on EVERYTHING else, like weights and balance, design, loads, human factors/safety, the buyers, the produceability people, etc. So there was this continual feedback loop going on, as the project got refined. For literally, about three years !

I assume your roof weight is for the optional hardtop? I believe the LSS wheels are slightly lighter despite being slightly wider in front.

Here are some wheel weights and specs:

[edit] and tire specs:

Looks like the easiest way to lose unsprung weight is with Hoosiers (less weight, more grip; tough to argue that one :))

Changing from the stock 048s to Hoosier's DOT R-Compounds saves a total of 16 lbs. That's a serious weight savings and it is unsprung and rotational inertial weight to boot; that's the best to lose! Isn't there some calculation that gives the equivalent in "sprung weight"?

I'm getting some of those instead of a CF hardtop (at $4500, that is good for quite a few sets of Hoosiers!)

Mine on scales was 41% 59% but that is with a lighter battery and QS exhaust. The bigger problem is the side to side weight distribution. I think it was about 70lbs heavier on the left. It must have been designed to be RHD ;)
