Greetings folks ---

I'm looking for a later model V8 Esprit --- MY 2001, 2002, 2003, (or Final Run Edition) only.

My preference for exterior color is Silver / Aluminum / Grey / Gunmetal, etc., but I would also consider dark Blue (absolutely NO other colors, please).

I'd appreciate a PM if you are (or know of anyone who is) selling. Complete service history is important.

I am a no-nonsense, cash buyer --- US cars only, please.

just a heads up that the last gen Esprit went from 99-04.

04 being the final edition (which has the adjustable suspension and a few other things) and 02 is when they switched the rear lights from toyota to the round ones (which IMO is trying to hard to be a Ferrari) and has the cheese grater center exhaust. There are a few other minor cosmetic things I'm sure, but otherwise the cars are identical.

Just an FYI, there is zero difference between the 2000 and 2001 models except for a minor software change in the fuel evap system. IMHO, you can keep all of the round tail-light and center cheese grater exhaust versions... the only (later) version that has any real merit is the final run as it has stainless mesh replacements for the chicken wire which always rusts and the fully adjustable suspension.

Also note that all of the V8 cars (sans the final run) have weak front springs which sag and all suffer from poor quality shocks which don't last, I've yet to see any that haven't gone south. Fortunately Lotus did a suspension update program a few years back which resulted in new powder coated springs sourced from Eibach and new shocks with alloy perches from Bilstein. When my OEM stuff went south, I replaced with these and they are much better.

Good luck on your search.

My understanding is that the switch to AP brakes didn't happen until 00 --- which makes a key difference separating the 99 from the later cars. I want a car with the AP brake package.

Another important difference is the switch to Hylomar sealant on the cylinder liners which happened on the cars made from June 2000 on. This means the 99's and some of the early 00's have the older sealant --- and potential leakage problem. I want to avoid that concern as well, which is the reason I'm looking at 01 on, only.

The AP Racing brake setup first appeared on the Sport 350 which was introduced in 1999. Starting in 2000, all cars had the AP Racing setup. 2000 MY also introduced the matching color trim on the rear, insides and Lotus center caps on the wheels. Beyond 2000MY there is nothing noteworthy going forward until the final run and the adjustable suspension. Good luck in finding a nice example.... also, note that a dealer in Canada was still showing a new 2000 V8 which was never sold, it's been listed on ebay endlessly. The factory will no longer honor the warranty, but it is a new car and you can probably work a decent deal on it.

Yes, that's true. It was earlier in 2000... closer to early March. LEW has an engine serial number listed starting the Hylomar sealant. My car was built in March 2000 and has the Hylomar sealant. However, I can't really say it's all that important. All V8 cars suffer from cooling systems which are under capacity for the V8, run very hot, especially in hot climates and will cycle to 103C+ in stop and go traffic endlessly and even worse with the A/C running. You only have to overheat once to melt the sealant, even the Hylomar stuff melts at less than 110C. And it's at one of hotter areas of the engine, the base of the cylinder liner.

I know this for a fact... my pressure cap lost pressure on a short spirited run. I noticed the temp gauge shooting up instantly and shut it down immediately. It was too late. You could hear the coolant boiling in the engine and yes, the sealant melted and coolant started pumping into the crankcase. So the Hylomar sealant is better than the previous Loctite stuff, but it's all relative to your cooling system.
